Tasting it, I don't think it would have been good on
anything, and the salt factor was prohibitive for
adding to a dog.

I think they beat them when they sneezed, or something.
Or did something to the acidity, more likely.

Weasel words indeed, with naughty implications. What if
someone stuck a pound of Coleman beef in with their regular
hot dog mix and labeled the result "made with organic beef?"
I pretty much endorse Weller's comments about marketers.

Although for a lark once I got Faberge pure honey and
wheat germ shampoo, no other labeling, which a lawyer
friend accompanying me said, on eyeballing the label,
should in fact have contained only those two ingredients.
I was pretty doubtful on that claim but risked 50c on
it anyhow, as I needed shampoo. Turned out to be, not a
surprise, a standard formulation full of things not in
the description nor in my vocabulary at the time, such
as cocamide DEA and sodium laureth sulfate, but in fact
also the best shampoo I'd ever bought. Guessed that it
was on sale because of defects in labeling, and in fact,
I continued to see it (with a fuller label) for a buck
to 1.29, and continued to buy it for some years after.

POACHED APRICOTS WITH KAYMAK
cat: dessert, fruit, dairy
serves: 6

1/2 lb lg dried Turkish apricots
1/4 c sugar
3 cardamom pods, crushed and seeded
1 ts fresh lemon juice
1 c kaymak, very thick yogurt, or mascarpone
3 Tb finely chopped peeled unsalted pistachios

Soak apricots overnight in 2 c water.

Preheat oven to 300F. Pour soaking liquid into 1-qt saucepan.
Add sugar, cardamon seeds, and lemon juice, and bring to boil.
Add apricots. Moisten and crumple a small sheet of parchment
paper, and cover apricots. Cover saucepan, and bake in oven for
90 min. Allow apricots to cool in syrup, and then refrigerate
until well chilled.

Drain apricots, reserving syrup. Split each, and fill with kaymak,
yogurt, or mascarpone. Arrange in shallow serving dish, spoon some
syrup over apricots, scatter with pistachios, and serve.
