I've always gotten everything back within 48 hours (last trip
the didgeridoos got delayed half a day from Los Angeles) - I've
had worse luck with carryon and the TSA in the early days losing
or confiscating things and not telling me - viz. a pencil, some
nail clippers, and a water bottle, at various times.

Several airlines have banned various brands of laptop from
their cabins. One can remember, though, in the early laptop
days SQ and various others would allow the use of computers
on board only when the batteries were removed, which is
perhaps prescient.

Who's the manufacturer? If Sony made the battery, there's
a possibility, but what I understand is that the recall will
involve batteries made under a modern protocol that dictated
thinner walls to save weight, something that old useless
batteries probably didn't have.

One can buy some nice things at the airport, but one does
pay monopoly prices for them. I am eligible for the SATS
lounge and sometimes the Silver Kris so don't have to pay
the extortionate alcohol prices.

SVESTKOVE KNEDLIKY (Plum Dumplings)
cat: dessert, breakfast
servings: 3 to 5

2 eggs
2 c sifted flour (all-purpose)
2 c boiled potatoes, riced
1 c fine bread crumbs
12 to 15 plums **
1/4 c cinnamon sugar
salt
butter

Cream 2 tablespoons butter, beat in eggs and salt. Gradually beat in flour
and riced potatoes. Dough should be stiff to knead thoroughly. On floured
board roll out dough to 1/4-in thickness, then cut 3-inch squares. Lay 1 plum
on each square, sprinkle with little cinnamon sugar and fold edges over plum.
Shape with hands into a ball. The wall of dough should be very thin. Drop
dumplings into boiling salted water, cover and simmer for about 15 minutes.
Brown bread crumbs in 1/3 cup hot butter. Roll dumplings in buttered bread
crumbs, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Makes 3-5 servings.

** M guesses that the plums should be those little Italian purple ones and
   that they should be pitted, but with these authentic recipes it's hard
   to tell.
