Trader Joe things again -

Trader Joe's pappadums "an authentic Indian snack" - yogurt and
dill flavor - texture reminiscent of styrofoam; flavor not unlike
Pringles, only not as nice. The main ingredient is potato flour.
The yogurt-dilliness luckily is muted by a touch of hot Indianesque
spicing. Not completely unsatisfactory, but pretty dubious.

Trader Joe's mini milk chocolate peanut butter cups - these are
about twice the size of a chocolate chip, so you can eat a bunch
without thinking - and each one contains 8 Calories and 1.5% of
your saturated fat allowance, so a 27-piece serving is a nutrition
disaster. The things are pretty decent, with a hefty peanut butter
punch - they're not so nice as Reese's, whose peanut filling has
some texture and character, but they are worth eating (if you can
get past the nutritional issues).

Trader Joe's frozen broccoli florets - surprisingly, not bad.

Three Trader Joe's cheeses - 

Bergenost with peppadew - an offensive fatty-tasting
spoiled-milk cheese lie a baby swiss; the peppadew
added maybe a little oomph or taste-bud numbness, so
that was good

Cheddar with mango and chili - a mild Cheddar that was
livened a tad by the chile but quite undone by the mango

Fontiago - you can guess what this is supposed to be; well,
it tastes like putrefied Fontina, and I don't care for
Fontina in the first place.

Two Del Monte products -

Del Monte golden Roma diced tomatoes - extremely low acid and
mild in taste; also sort of mushy. Not my favorite tomatoes in
the world, but better than the below.

Del Monte Italian herb chunky spaghetti sauce - I was making my
battuto with carrots, peppers, onions, and garlic and then looked
around for some tomatoes to throw in - Carol came up with this
stuff out of the cupboard; it was the right-sized can, so I tossed
it in, regretting it as soon as I did so. A sickly sweet odor
came up at me ... I tasted the residue in the can, gark. Looked at
the label, and right after tomato parts was the dread corn syrup
(not high-fructose corn syrup, but any corn syrup is bad in such
a situation - it bespeaks lack of confidence in the tomatoes).
I tasted the stuff in the saucepan and called Carol over. Help me
fix this, I said. I don't have much experience fixing anything this
wretched. She tasted it and said it wasn't too bad but started
flinging in vast quantities of Italian seasoning with cheese, which
surprisingly didn't make it worse for me but not surprisingly did
not make it good enough for me to want to eat. She thought it was
fine, but I refused to eat it, perhaps the first time I've ever
refused to eat something I fixed but didn't throw away. Trust me,
this Del Monte stuff is really nasty - sweeter than cookies and
with about as much tomato flavor.
