Hi Janis,

JK> > No problem; it seems I'm in a perpetual catch up mode.

JK> Really.. life gets crazy sometimes, that's for sure.

Me too; I've been cutting pieces for a scrappy 4 patch quilt top for the
new grand baby. The 4 patch blocks will each have 2 pinks, a green and a
blue square, alternating with a pink gingham block. The squares are
from 12 different pinks & 6 each green & blue--to be pieced by random
selection. That will be my take along project to work on for our trip so
you may see it in pieces. (G)

>> hahahaha.. thank you for the warning :) :)

JK> > I was reading in one of my quilt books that the Hawaiians would use
JK> it > sometimes to "glue" sheets of tapa together for coverings.

JK> So library paste is an acurate description :) :) If you're talking

In a sense, yes. It's not very appealing to look at and doesn't last
more than a day or so. Some Hawaiians (the older folks) like it when
it's sour but it's bad enough (IMO) fresh.

JK> about that stuff we used to use in grade school, I do know some people
JK> who LOVED that stuff Lol

I never tried it--nor dog biscuits. (G)

>> > Easier to use frozen coconut milk.

>> Hmm.. I'll have to look for it.. never had reason to :)

JK> > Should be fairly easy to find, especailly in Asian grocery stores.

JK> Yes, that would be the first place I'd look..

If you didn't find it there, I'd be surprised. A bigger Wegmans, if
they're in your area, might have it as well.

>> Interesting too, that this receipe uses cake mix and instant pudding,

JK> Sure.. normal 1-2-3-4 egg cake would it, I think.. you know the type I
JK> mean.. 2 cups flour, 3/4 cup milk, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup
 JK> sugar, 1t vanilla.. etc..

I think most cakes use at least 2 cups of sugar--at least by the recipe.
Some of us cut that amount by half or so.

>> > Fun to be able to do such things. A drum/bugel corps got started in

>> Maybe the time just wasn't right for the area? Not sure... I found a

JK> > I don't know. It was one of the NY City transplant parents that cme
JK> up > with the idea to begin with.

JK> Ah ... NYC had some great drum corps, could be why.. the NY Skyliners
JK> were incredibly famous and one of the Sr. drum corps. we kept track

I think I've heard of them but can't really say for sure. It's not in my
general area of being aware of--but might come in handy for "Jeopardy"
some time. (G)

>> side of the picture.. when that picture was taken, I was the 2nd

JK> > Shown it to your kids yet? (G)

JK> No, but I will when I think of it.. I'm sure my daughter will get a
JK> laugh out of that one :)

Wait until your grand kids get old enough to appreciate it. (G)

>> Yes, sometimes kids weren't interested in such things.. The Queens
>> (our drum corps) lasted until about 2001 according to the web page I
>> found.. interesting. I'd thought it had dissolved long before.

JK> > When you leave the area, you lose a lot of the continuing history.
JK> BTW, > if you saw the movie "You Can Count On Me" (came out around
JK> 2000); it > was filmed in/around Margaretville. I caught bits of it on
JK> a plane the > next spring but would like to find a copy--guess I

JK> No, afraid I haven't .. but I'll keep my eye out for it .. you never
JK> know what's going to on TV (g).

I know; we've seen some rather "interesting" ones from time to time.
Helps if you have the movie channels like HBO & Showtime but we don't.

>> We used to cook before taking long trips on the bus to our
>> destination... we had to have good "healthy" junk to eat :) So I
>> always made brownies.

JK> > With or without nuts?

JK> Always without nuts.. too many people just didn't like them :) I
JK> loved pecans, but understood that not everyone was like me :)

I'd just as soon have them without--more chocolatey goodness to them.

>> ====we didn't bother with the whipped cream :) :) ===

 JK> > Why bother? (G)

JK> Really.. maybe some gooey chocolate icing.. :)

Leave any icing in the sun or a warm place and it'll get gooey on it's
own.
