====================================================================
Hi Hap,

hn> Happy 4th to you and Steve!

Thanks, we had a good, quiet one. Thought we were going to get some of
nature's fire works but they held off until today--while we were out.
We didn't go out yesterday; I can't take fire works any more.

-> hn> kid does. As an adult I find I am less likely to enjoy being out
-> hn> in the heat, and humidity as a kid I was able to ignore it, which
-> hn> seems to be an ability I have lost with age (grin) somewhere!

-> About the same here. We didn't have many days above the mid to upper
-> 80s in the summer with a fair amount of humidity. It didn't bother me
-> then but sure does now. In winter, we'd have stretches of -0 and below
-> weather that never bothered me either but sure would now. I guess we all
-> adapt to wherever we live but some places take more adapting to than

hn> When I lived in Hawaii, I became accustomed to the temps there.

I miss them, but more so, the trade winds that kept everything
moderated. And, living up on Scofield was nicer than down toward
Honolulu or in Ewa Beach as some friends did--a bit higher elevation
made the temps a bit cooler.

hn> Guam was much hotter and more humid, and I never seemed to
hn> get used to that. The fact that my workspace was kept at a
hn> perpetual 63 F may have had something to do with that!

Probably so. You'd go out of your work place and feel like you were in
a sauna.

-> hn> hand...the fine movements involved in threading beads,
-> hn> or working with extremely small tools however seems
-> hn> to cramp up my left hand right below the thumb..and

-> I've been cutting out a baby quilt that has about 240 small pieces (2
-> 1/2" squares) and 54 somewhat larger (4 1/2" squares) ones the past few
-> days. Of course you can't just hack away so to get each square, you need
-> to make several cuts beyond the basics. Last couple of nights the hand

hn> Don't you have one of those rotary cutters I
hn> keep seeing on TV? They look like they'd make
hn> easy peasy work for cutting several layers of
 hn> cloth at a time!

A rotary cutter (looks like a pizza cutter)? Yes, and I've even got a
left handed ergonomic one. But, with the amount of cutting I had to do,
it still took a lot out of my hand. My left wrist and elbow have both
been messed up, with plates & screws in them & some nerve damage so
cutting a quilt is a major undertaking. I'm glad I don't work in a pizza
place cutting pizzas all day--but I've seen some places where they use a
big mezzaluna instead of the rotary cutter thing.

-> hn> and yes there have been a lot of UGA's in the past, bulldogs are not
->  hn> particularly long-lived.

-> This particular one was the 6th in the "official" line, dating back to
-> the latter part of the 50s. Figuring, each dog lived about 9 years from
-> the information in the paper the other day. A bull dog as designed by
-> Walt Disney no less is the official mascot of the 3rd Infantry Division,
-> (dog faced soldiers) based at Fort Stewart so we're really in bull dog

 hn> Stands to reason (grin)

No comments on my stubbornness now. (G)

-> hn> We've been playing the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Canadian
-> hn> Fans come down in Droves to watch them when they play a

-> It must be interesting; I read about the activities in another of your
-> posts. Do the concession stands do a special on poutine whenever the
-> Jays are in town? I suspect, some enterprising cocessionaire could put
-> one together without much trouble (using mostly what's already on hand)
-> and endear himself to the Toronto fans.

hn> No poutine offered, anytime. And most of the west coast
hn> fans don't like it anyway...and their opinion of Quebecer's is
hn> even lower than their opinion of poutine!

Now that is low down! I wonder if it was ever offered when the Expos
were in Montreal? Now that they're the Nationals (or as the
sportscasters call them, the Nats--can't get rid of those bugs!), they
probably serve the standard hot dogs and other ball park food.

-> hn> for the rest of the homestand to do photo work for the Tallships
->  hn> tacoma festival www.taslhipstacoma.com . I expect to be plenty
-> hn> busy and I'll need to keep hydrated...and know where the porta

-> That sounds like it would be an interesting event to attend. I think I
-> read about a Navy ship coming to Savannah for the week end but don't
-> recall what type. We're going to stay away from downtown and the Fort
-> Stewart "zoos" this week end.

hn> Go have a look at the website, it's a fun one!

OK, I probably will take a look.
