Good ol' DNS cache poisoning.  Evidently, BIND 8 was terrible about
that.  They patched BIND 9 and got the biggest user of BIND 8, Yahoo!,
to switch to BIND 9, so I'm gathering they stomped that down into
oblivion, I hope.  I've never had a problem with DNS poisoning as I
use OpenDNS (the fastest free DNS server[s] I've ever used) on all of
my personal systems, including the BBS.

Well, we actually didn't talk "shop" yet.  We all got there and it's a
very small crowd, nothing like in past years, sadly.  Stan told me he
barely participates anymore and was sincerely amazed that I was
running a BBS.  I discovered another BBS for everyone to use in case
of emergency (a PCBoard/2 BBS run by Jeff Binkley at
telnet://bbs.thebinks.com) too.  So much nerding was to be had and
there was some great chicken grilled for dinner with a nice
mustard-based coleslaw.

Unfortunately, I'm rather sensitive to mustard, so I passed, but
everyone else who tried it said it was good.  It seemed that the
majority of people there didn't like regular colesaw due to the mayo
content, but they said this was nice n' tangy.

John Massey made some great southr'n cheese sticks...yum...need to
remember to get his recipe from him today!  Cheddar cheese, a little
flour and a dash (or two!) of cayenne pepper.  Really, really tasty,
but make sure you're drinking something when you're eating them as
they'll dry you out!

I unfortunately, as we speak, have been running as of now only on
three hours of sleep.  I woke up at about 0500 and could not go back
to sleep.  What's worse is that I have to work tonight so I won't
sleep until about noon tomorrow.  In a few hours, we're heading back
over to Stan's for breakfast.  Not sure what we're going to do today
since I saw on the early AM news that today is the hottest day of the
month (over 92 degrees and the humidity thick enough to cut!).

We'll probably just chat and play pool for most of the day, then go
out to dinner, just enjoying each other's company.  It's really nice
to socialize with other people besides my boss and his family (not
that we don't /mind/, of course).  If you put aside political views,
they're all very nice people.  Maura was rather shy at first, but she
opened up as the crowd congregrated with the men in the living room
and the women at the kitchen table.  The women were looking at photo
albums while us guys were trying how to figure out to program one of
those fancy new Logitech Harmony multi-function remote controls.

I only wish we could come up to the picnic this year, but it's not in
the cards.  Perhaps next year or even do as Carol suggested and have
two picnics.  It wouldn't matter to me where the picnic is held.  I'm
hoping to, with my settlement, get a trailer hitch put on the VUE and
perhaps get a small (13') travel trailer for Maura and I.  We could go
pretty much anywhere with that.

As for the political stuff, we should go over to the POLITICS echo,
but that may be a "Daniel in the lion's den" situation for you. <G>

I've become more and more apolitical.  When I can properly purchase
myself a politician or two, then I may become more interested.

And now a recipe to atone for my off-topic sinning:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Breakfast Rice
 Categories: Breakfast, Crockpot
      Yield: 6 Servings

      1 c  Long-grain brown rice
      1 c  Unsweetened apple juice
      1 c  Water
    1/2 c  Raisins
    1/2 ts Ground cinnamon

  Recipe by: The New McDougall Cookbook Preparation Time: 0:05
  : Combine all fo the ingredients in a sacuepan. Bring to a boil,
  cover, reduce the heat, and cook for 40 mintues. Let rest for 10
  minutes before serving.    This may also be made in a slow cooker
  overnight. Combine all of the ingredients and cook on low for 8 to
  10 hours. 170 calories, 1.0 grams fat per serving.
