====================================================================
Hi Ruth!

>> Yes, that part usually would heal up pretty fast, at least it did for
>> my son.

> It did, with a bit of medical assistance.

Ok... he didn't need anything for it.

>> The humidity though, I would guess would just mean you'd have to stay
>> indoors more than not. My mom lived in Baltimore for a while and the
>> humidity there made her asthma so much worse.

> Actually, the south west is much less humid than the south east. I'm

It would be, for sure.

> having a lot more year round breathing problems because of the humidity
> here in GA than I did in AZ. The old saying about it being a dry heat
> out in the south west.............an oven is dry heat also. (G)

I bet. When we were in Georgia, the humidity was terrible. Good peaches though
(g).

>> the NEXT year.. Oh well.. :) Finally though, we decided to move back
>> to NY - it was the best decision given the way the heat was getting to
>> me in Louisville. That turned out worse for me, than the allergies.

> It's not the heat that bothers me so much as the humidity. In HI, it
> was humid but the trade winds kept it (mostly) blown off. Here there
> are no trades and I really feel the humidity.

We've been getting really humid weather this month.. much more so than I
remember in other years. Probably has to do with the water table in the area
and the rivers being full up.. when you look at them, they are beautiful
though.

>> :) We don't do that much chocolate around here since so many are
>> allergic to it.. I still make chocolate cakes and ice cream on
>> occaision though.. I don't have any allergies to it :)

> Have you tried carob as a chocolate replacement? I used it years ago but

Yes, I use it now and then as well.. It's not the same though :) I usually have
a lot of carob around since I buy it bulk.

> then went back to chocolate. I probably should try carob again for some
> things but it won't ever 100% replace chocolate.

Nope, sure won't. It's ok. It's Carob (g).

>> cooperating.. vertigo..The kids were 2 1/2 and 5 yrs. old.. that
>> dishwasher was quite a necessity and still is :)

> That must have ben scary, especially with the kids so young. I can see
> why you would want a dishwasher. It was something they could learn to
> load & unload to help you.

Well, it was scarier when I first got it, that's true.. My daughter was only 4
months old when I was first diagnosed. Those next few years were when all the
really bad stuff went on - Then somewhere in there, maybe 6 years into it, it
just went away (for a while (grin)). So I've been very fortunate with it
compared to some people. And as far as getting the kids to help with loading
the dishwasher, surely you jest (vbg). Just kidding, really they always helped
a lot with things like that :)

>> > kept in a steam table. Not always high class eating but you got a
>> lot > for your money and it was good.

>> They sound like great places, for sure.

> They were good and we miss them. Sometimes we would be the only "round
> eyes" in the place but not for long as they were so popular. Out
> favorite one would have a long line at sometimes, the oddest hours.

One of the restaurants we went to the other day, Morning Star Chinese
restaurant, piled food on the plates much like you describe, as I was telling
Sean in another message. It was quite a meal :)

>> My grape trellis is going to be loaded this year.. you can tell just
>> looking at it so that's good ;) The tomatoes should have time to
>> ripen.. given the heat we've had recently that won't be a problem most

> And by next month you will be putting up tomatoes every other day. What
> are you going to do with the grapes?

I usually make jam and jellies with them. I don't have the patience for wine.
Not to mention that wine seems to go right to my CNS, and that's not real good
:(
>> > We had rhubarb in the early days of the garden, yellow wax beans
>> later > on as "nibbles".

>> hehe.. that's neat.. :) My greenbeans should be about ready to start
>> picking.. I planted two types as I normally do.. bush beans and vining
>> long greenbeans.. Tomorrow I hope to plant some Italian greenbeans.

> Oh, beans! (G)

That's about what I said when I got out there and saw all the greenbeans haha..
Tons of them :) Sadly the vining ones are still taking their time but that's
ok.. the Bush Blue Lake guys are quite overproducing (grin). That's another one
I plant really heavy, as I do the peas.. i.e., I don't follow the package
instructions typically.

===Potato Salad Italienne===
Serves 6-8
12 new potatoes
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
3-4 green onions, chopped
1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup Balsamic vinegar, or tarragon vinegar

Boil potatoes in water salted with the one tablespoon of salt for 25 minutes,
or until the potatoes can be pierced with a fork. Drain and peel the potatoes.
Slice the potatoes 1/4 " thick. Place in large bowl with green onions and
parsley. In separate bowl, combine olive oil and vinegar. Sprinkle the olive
oil and vinegar with red pepper flakes. Pour over potatoes. Add parsley.
Toss gently. Red wine may be used instead of vinegar.

Take care,
Janis
