Welp - Hairbreadth Harry does it again. 

I was feeling poorly for no reason that I could imagine. No energy, severely
affected by bright sunlight, getting dizzy at odd moments and constant "cotton
mouth". Not to mention the "black tarry stools" which had me fearing Big Casino
of the colon.  Bv(=

So, I went to my doctor's office - SIU School of Medecine Clinics to see if
they could work me in for an appointment. I spoke with the nurse who took down
my symptoms and told me to go back home and wait for a phone call telling me
when to return.

When I got home the light on my box was flashing and the nurse's voice said
"Dr. Scott wants you to go to the emergency room. RIGHT NOW!!!"

That sounded pretty grim. Called my sister-in-law for taxi service and got
there pretty quick. Vickie wanted me to wait whilst she rounded up a wheelchair
and a pusher - but, I insisted I could shuffle in on my own.

Apparently I looked awfully rough as they immediately clamped a blood pressure
cuff on me for a reading of 52/33 ... which, even I know is cause for concern.

So, four days later, after having several bags of Nexium (the little purple
pill) liquid, four units of plasma and four units of whole blood and an EGD(?)
test - I had three bleeding ulcers - caused by Alleve (as near as we could
tell) and aggravated by the Coumadin and Asprin regimens prescribed by the
cardiologists.

I had a very nice young resident on my case - who, if he goes to work for SIU
Clinics I am going to request for my regular croaker - and he kept me up to
date with what was going on. Which helped - especially the news that it was not
the cancer that I had feared but the ulcers which I had not suspected. He also
told me that my initial hemoglobin reading on admission was 3.5 - which as
Georgia said is not dead but close enough that you should have heard the music.

Upshot is - I am off of aspirin, coumadin and Alleve (as well as its generic -
naproxin sodium) forever more. And have a (probably) lifetime script for
Nexium. Also a reduced dose of my "regular" BP medicine along with a
new/different BP pill. Life (yay) is interesting. I feel much better than I
have for a while - am still losing weight and nedd to be shopping for smaller
waist size breeches.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Red Potato Salad
 Categories: Salads, Potatoes
      Yield: 9 servings
 
     12 c  Cubed red potatoes
      1 c  Chopped green bell pepper
    1/2 c  Minced red onion
    1/2 c  Extra-virgin olive oil
    1/3 c  Red wine vinegar
      2 tb Dijon mustard
      2 tb Mayonnaise
  1 1/2 ts Salt
    1/2 ts Ground black pepper
 
  Cook potatoes, covered in boiling water, 10 minutes, or
  until tender; drain well and cool.
  
  In a large bowl, combine potatoes, bell pepper and onion.
  
  In a small bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients. Pour
  over potato mixture, tossing gently to coat.
  
  Cover and refrigerate.
