===================
ML> Chicken piccata (Dale's) - lemony, yummy, no capers though. A
ML> little soupy with wine sauce. The chicken wasn't pounded enough. B-.
DS> Chicken Piccata is usually lemon, capers, a little bit of garlic and
DS> white wine. This had no capers (none were listed on the menu, and the
DS> waitress confirmed that before I ordered). It had a lot of garlic and
DS> a lot of mushrooms. I'm not sure what else was in the sauce, but it
DS> was not white. IMO, a decent dish but I prefer the more traditional
 DS> Piccata.

In fact, it tasted to me like chicken Marsala with tons of lemon
added. I liked that, though it was a touch sweet for a piccata.

ML> Broiled scallops (Gail's) were good, no quibbles. About as good
ML> as I'd guess it is possible to get in inland New York. A-.
DS> Nope -- Gail had a dish called Chicken Soltimbocca. Chicken breast
DS> sauteed in butter with fresh garlic, proscuitto and seasonings and
DS> topped with melted Swiss and mozzarella cheese, finished with cream
DS> sherry. I had some of it. Good, but again rather on the dark side.

No wonder I forgot. Not sure I'd have expended a pill to sample this.

DS> Makes me wonder if my Picatta had cream sherry instead of white wine?

Possibly, but I thought Marsala.

DS> Gail had a dish with the same name on the cruise ship. It was pounded
DS> chicken breast, rolled around the cheese and proscuitto. In that
DS> presentation, the proscuitto did not get lost.

The cruise version is more standard. It should also have sage leaves
both in the stuffing and as a garnish.

DS> It was Carol who had the scallops. I had a bite and they were very
DS> good. I like scallops, Gail does not -- and so I only get them out.
DS> Did not occur to me to try them here though.

Ah. All I knew was that a scallop came over from the other end
of the table.

DS> Charlotte had some sort of seafood basket, but by the time it came she
DS> had gotten full on other things and most of it went "home".

Though as you recall she ate about a pound of meatballs in one
sitting, as well as other things, at the picnic.

=

ML> fenugreek, except I couldn't find any fenugreek, so I
DS> Fenugreek seeds or leaves? We have both. There is a dish that Akbar
DS> makes called Methi Chicken which Gail likes. That uses Fenugreek
 DS> leaves (aka Methi).

Either, but I use seeds. These are very hard and should be ground
up in a spice or coffee grinder before use (makes an awful racket).
If you use leaves, you need to use more of them. Just keep adding
until it tastes right.

DS> Gail normally is able to keep the crust from getting quite that brown
DS> by a shield cut out of an old pie pan. This time, the pie shells she
DS> bought were slightly larger than the shields she brought, plus having
DS> a different oven to judge. The pecan pie needs to cook long enough to
DS> cause the pecans to get a crystaline crunchiness.

Hint: crimp aluminum foil around the edges.

 DS> Both pies were gone before we got back for left-over day:-}}

What, you think we were nuts to leave any of that pie behind?
