The ones I've seen are simple air cannons, not equipped to
provide spin or varied trajectory. But I don't see any reason
why there shouldn't be these either.

Speaking of tennis, I went by a park where I used to play
tennis twenty years ago (rather ineffectively, I may add,
as you may guess, given eyesight issues - my b-i-l described
my style of play: I'd stand there motionless until the ball
arrived at my field of discrimination, and then I'd move
rapidly to intercept it, with mixed success), and the courts
were replaced by a skateboarding maze.

Sorry to pop your balloon, but the tendency has in fact levelled out,
with the average complement of musicians in the theaters approximately
zero. Sometimes greater than zero, but the string section tends to
be zero, unless one counts the Kurzweil machine (which I count as a
negative number).

I think it unlikely that the US governments are going to
provide meaningful subsidy to the arts even when the evidence
mounts of tangible quality of life benefits from them.

Bear in mind that the Gallo corporation essentially owns Modesto CA.

Which tells one what a wretched wine it must have been. I do believe
that when opened it was excessively mediocre, and our mistake was
not to drink it all up rapidly before it could breathe.

Pecan Poppers
cat: snack
yield: 1 lb

4 Tb butter
3 Tb sugar
1/4 c Evan Williams Bourbon
2 Tb hot pepper sauce
1 1/2 ts salt
1/2 ts garlic powder
4 c pecan halves (about 1 lb)

Preheat oven to 300 F.

Combine all ingredients except pecans in large saucepan.
Simmer to blend, then bring to boil over medium heat.
Boil three minutes stirring constantly. Stir in pecans.
Toss to coat well. Spread nuts in single layer in jelly
roll pan. Bake 45 - 60 minutes until nuts are crisp.

Cool. Store in airtight container.
