Hi Ruth!

>> > Nor do we want you climbing the trees!
>> Lol.. no, don't worry.. my tomboy days are gone (laugh).. I was quite
>> a tomboy when I was a kid. Loved softball, hardball, football,
>> climbing trees, catching snakes, catching bugs.. perhaps for

> I was the tomboy in our family. Didn't get into the snakes and bug but
> used to get a kite waaaaaaaaaaaay up high! Yes, I climbed my share of
> trees too.

haha.. my dad was so overprotective I don't think he ever would have let us
climb a tree (g) We did though once in a while if he was working :)

>> scientific study..Lol..I was quite a runner too.. My legs were always
>> too long to suit me.. worked good though for running races (grin)

> My legs were OK; it was the lungs that always quit on me when running.

I was a pretty healthy kid all in all..

>> is such a help.. Eoin, needing to do _everything_ his older brother
>> does (laugh) then kicks in too.. they are such great kids.

> Sounds like you had fun with them; nice to have them so close.

Yes, it's neat..

>> boy.. glad I'll be visiting there.. no doubt Lauren will be happy with
>> all of these kinds of things at her fingertips.

> I would enjoy having fruit trees in the back yard again.

Same here.. Well, as I said, we have one lonely peach tree in the other lot,
it's partner died in one of our early frosts one year.. I think the people who
sold the house to us had probably planted them not that long ago.. in other
words, they weren't very strong.

>> _was_ on the market.. they only wanted 169,000 for it.. didn't sell..

> Decent price. Then, too, I've seen a lot of super high prices in
> different areas.

Yep. Prices range from 100,000 to whatever, just like in Binghamton.. I saw a
few in the city that looked really nice, with enough room for the dogs.. but
we're not anxious to move to be honest.

>> We paid 129,000 for this one and it doesn't have near the property of
>> the one in Ithaca (2 acres there). I would think it's because the
>> house has retained so much of it's original .. what shall we say..
>> "charm" :) :) er...old fashioned setup that made it unsaleable to

> What I sawof it, your house was interesting.

It is a neat house. It's sure big enough for all of us when we need it to be.
Having the two lots is nice as well, since we can plan (dream) silly plans when
we're bored (g). I should have brought everyone upstairs to see the second
floor, but figured Matt and Alana would be sleeping.. Later Alana told me that
Charlotte had taken a tour, which I thought was nice ;) The house had two
apartments upstairs at one time.. so there are two kitchens upstairs as well..
but the second kitchen has been pretty much stripped of appliances and it's now
used as a dining room. The plumbing and electric is still up there though.

>> downstairs...woodstove in the dining room ...it's a great house no
>> doubt.. the best part is, they'll have plenty of room for everyone and

> Nice for everyone. Does she have an old fashioned farm kitchen?

Yes.. and there is a sunroom next to it that opens up into a bricked patio..
with herbs growing wild there. It's fenced in with a picket fence so my
daugher can let Drew wonder outside there without worrying about what he's into
(g).

>> NOW I'm hoping that the insulation is at least adequate if we do have
>> a bad winter..

> I hope she does too.

Well, one good thing is the landlord told them that every winter she comes by
and seals the windows upstairs and down with plastic sheets. That's great,
because there are SO many windows in the house :)

>> this week.. by then Ron starts saying, 'what's for lunch? Lemme guess
>> Tomato soup or tomato __??' :)

> Enjoy them while you can.

Definitely :) It's been really warm here this week. Still 85-90 in the
daytime.. Sept. 3? Well, I hope it lasts (g).

>> again.. but t the broccolli I started indoors is a late season
>> variety.. you have to plan what you're going to plant. In other words,
>> you don't plant a spring variety in the mid summer.. won't make it..
>> as it is, I planted it a bit late so I'll probably get a number of
>> smallish heads of broccoli.. but we're only two people so it works for

> Good; I didn't know the season went that long in NY.

It can.. of course you could have cold snaps disrupt everything too haha but
right now its way to warm for autumn broccolli.

>> temperature shifts.. from what I remember at least.. I saw that the
>> southern hemisphere is also losing drastic amounts of ice, just like
>> the north pole.. That is darn scarey. When we first moved here about 5

> I don't think the global warming thing is what it's purported to be.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree :)

>> wishing we had a snow blower .. but nothing like I remember for weeks
>> and months at a time of snow-weather when I was a kid. We always

> I remember plenty of them as well. Snow from mid October, staying as
> late as the end of May.

Yep.. brr.. (g)

> That'll warm them up fast.

And it's safe for Eoin.. he loves it when everyone else eats and drinks the
same way he does. I can understand that.

Take care,
Janis
