And oddly enough, back in those days, they were often 
"flash roasted" in boiling cottonseed oil!!!
Why? because cottonseed oil was cheeeeeeep!

Oh I loves em I do! I can remember "Saturday Matinee's" in Sumter SC
Where you'd go to the movies from 9am till 3pm for a quarter.
There was an old farmer who sold bags of boiled peanuts out 
of the back of his pick up truck. 10cents got you a paper 
lunch sack full of boiled salty peanuts. With your pockets
full of penny candies, and a bag or two of those peanuts
you were good for all day....with the occaisional trip to
either the water fountain or the bathroom! (grin)!

When I was a child, we were to eat everything
that had been put on our plates. There were 
no food likes or dislikes in our family, they weren't
allowed. Happily I liked everything on the table
so I never had too many problems with that unless
I wasn't feeling well...and then you just eat it 
and your stomach may rebel at a later time (g).
I happen to really LIKE liver so for me that was
never a problem. When Amanda was young (maybe
3 or 4) I fixed liver for us. She took one taste and
didn't want ANY more. At that point for the first
time I became my father and made her eat it.
She did and immediately threw it right back up
on the plate. I was horrified, not that she threw
up, but that I had become that thing that I
hated when I was a child, a parent who did 
not listen to what the child was saying. That 
was the (thankfully) last time I parented like
my parents did.

Michael is coming out to visit this month. We may
make time to do our pilgrimage to Pike Place Market
and get gizzards and livers. We may also investigate
one or two new BBQ joints I know of. We will also
spend a little time at the ballpark! (grin)
