Hi Janis,

>> prebaked the crust and didn't put the topping on until later, like you
>> did above. She said it was better since the cheese didn't brown.

 JK> > I like the cheese a bit brown.

JK> hehe.. I do some, but try not to let it happen <grin>

If it happens, so much the better in my book. (G)

JK> know, neither > of my grandmothers made pizza (One pased away before I
 JK> was born, the
JK> > other one in 74, during my senior year in college.) and my mom
JK> always > used the boxed mixes so whatever I do, it's different. (G)

JK> Sounds like it <grin> But I doubt pizza was a big thing then .. at
JK> least as common as it now?

No, my dad said that spaghetti was a "foreign" food to his parents.
They were very much meat and potatoes eaters and he's the same way.

JK> > Steve's mom is Italian heritage so he grew up with a lot more home
JK> made > pizza than I did (as well as boxed; his mom kept it on hand for
 JK> a quick > snack).

JK> Neat :) I knew there had to be some Italian blood over there
 JK> somewhere <vbg>

Now you know. (G)

>> hehe.. I think I've had okra once, and didn't like it either <grin>

JK> > Depends on how it's fixed makes a big difference in its likeability.

JK> Oh no.. you mean it's like those brussel sprouts that Hap made me
 JK> try?? Lol

Probably so. I made some brussels sprouts in a cheese sauce years ago
that Steve thought were OK but generally I'll get my "fix" of them when
I don't have to cook for him.

>> accounts! This one is funny.. my grandmother on my father's side was
>> the granddaughter of an illegitimate child of a Count in Southern
>> Italy <grin>.. So I have ROYAL BLOOD in me <laugh> or something

JK> > It is interesting what can be found. My great grandfather on my
JK> dad's > side (the one who came to the States) was the youngest of
 JK> something like > 10 sons.

JK> Can you imagine that house <grin>.. I guess it was more the case than
 JK> not in those days.

Very much so! The fact that they all grew to adulthood is amazing.

JK> > The older brothers pooled their money to send him but before he
JK> > went, in his younger days, he and Otto von Bismarck were fishing
 JK> > buddies.

JK> > On my mom's side, I'm somehow related to Herbert Hoover but
 JK> > don't know just how.

JK> That's really great :) It is really neat to hear about other people's
JK> family trees! I met someone once whose godfather was Al Capone :) :)
JK> I thought that was outrageous.. I mean, of course it had to happen,
JK> but when you run into someone who was connected somehow, it makes
JK> history so much more real.

It's the 6 degrees of separation type thing.

>> Sounds like it was a great picnic.. matter of fact, I remember reading
>> about it when I first started perusing this echo :)

JK> > That's what brought Steve back into the echo, tho more of a lurker.
JK> > He'd been the one to get it originally, 14 years ago, on the
JK> One of the first > recipes I printed off was from Michael Loo for
 JK> pseudo Malinda's hot
JK> > sauce; that's one that still gets made regularly here--and a pint of
JK> it > went to Iraq when Deborah was deployed.

JK> That's great! Bet it was greatly appreciated.

Very much so, but then, too, any package was appreciated.

JK> > I was kidding with the postal
JK> > worker when I sent off that package about a thermo-nuclear device
JK> (the > hot sauce) in it; that was shortly after Saddam was captured.
JK> She got > varied (funny/interesting) reactions with the guys she
JK> shared it with in > her unit.

 JK> I bet :)

With a request for more but we couldn't fulfill it in the time they had
left.
