Hi Ruth!

>> Aw, no, you have to have nice soft stretchy cheese haha

> But the flavor of the cheese whan it is brown is so good!

Yeah it is for a bit.. but it leaves a taste in your mouth :)

>> > No, my dad said that spaghetti was a "foreign" food to his parents.
>> > They were very much meat and potatoes eaters and he's the same way.

>> Ron's mom and dad were the same way. Meat and potatoes was about it
>> for them :) Ron's dad actually did most of the cooking, and he was
>> pretty good at it (smile). In my house though, the only time my Mom
>> made potatoes was when Dad was working at the hospital. When Dad was

>> hard-headed haha

(laugh) That's just how it is here :)

>>> Neat :) I knew there had to be some Italian blood over there

>> > Now you know. (G)

>> Ron's family is mostly Dutch, with some german, some irish and of
>> course his mom's english heritage.. oh and his dad has some Indians
>> there too .. so he's a definite mixed breed :)

> Not quite a Heinz 57 tho. (G)

Oh he tells me no german... but I was sure his dad told me they weren't sure
haha. That's what you get when you mix stuff (bg) (I can say that since I'm
"almost" pure) (vbg). What's really cool is the name.. it means "strength"..
and geez, if you could see what he can lift ... knocks me out. My last name
before I met him (Giardino) means garden. Actually, my grandfather's name was
giardina, and the guys at Ellis island thought it would be better with an "O"
:)

>> > Probably so. I made some brussels sprouts in a cheese sauce years
>> ago > that Steve thought were OK but generally I'll get my "fix" of

>> Ron loves that kind of stuff (grin). I'm willing to try anything once
>> generally (g)

> I'll generally give vegetables a try and do like most of them (except
> sweet potatoes

Oh I love sweet potatoes :) :)

>and lima beans primarily). Abotu 10 years ago in

And I HATE lima beans.. and succotash :) Well I like the corn, but I can't
digest that too well :) :) More roughage that my body can't deal with. Same
problem with those darn whole wheat flours...

>AZ (at a

Don't you hate that! That church cookbook I mentioned before had this oatmeal
goopy thing that was sooooooo perfect.. and I've pretty much come close to it..
and Lauren said, hmm.. I'd write this down (laugh).. but I knew it wasn't
perfect yet.. it was in one of those lost cookbooks from when we moved..

>>> dad's > side (the one who came to the States) was the youngest of
>>> something like > 10 sons.

>>> Can you imagine that house <grin>.. I guess it was more the case than
>>> not in those days.

>> > Very much so! The fact that they all grew to adulthood is amazing.

>> That is very true. I know my grandmother lost two children way back,
>> but still had 6 survive. Ron's dad came from a family of 4 sisters
>> and 4 brothers.. that's a large family :)

> And Steve's dad is one of 11 children. Several have passed away but
> there are some I've not met, even after 32 years of marriage.

Yeah.. I know what you mean..Ron has relatives in Arizona and California.. but
not as close as that.

>>> but when you run into someone who was connected somehow, it makes
>>> history so much more real.

>> > It's the 6 degrees of separation type thing.

I've always been enthralled by that haha

>> Did you see the article in the news yesterday that some percentage of
>> peole in the UK think that Churchill was a "myth", and Sherlock Holmes
>> was "real"? Now I know it matters how they asked the question in their
>> survey, but boy was that shocking.

> No I didn't see that. Every so often I'll watch Jay Leno on Friday
> nights if he does his "Jay Walking" segment. The pure ignorance of so
> many people is astounding! Scary in some ways too.

I'm a political gadfly.. I know you and Carol are in the service, but I still
want things to change.. bigtime..

>>> > worker when I sent off that package about a thermo-nuclear device
>>> (the > hot sauce) in it; that was shortly after Saddam was captured.
>>> She got > varied (funny/interesting) reactions with the guys she
>>> shared it with in > her unit.

>>> I bet :)

>> > With a request for more but we couldn't fulfill it in the time they
>> had > left.

>> Understand.

> The unit came back 100% intact.

That is so incredibly neat to hear ;)

Take care,
Janis
