Hi Janis,

>> CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS MESSAGE <<

JK> > gotten worse over the years.

 JK> That's rough :( Lauren's started really when she was a little over a
JK> year old.. Every time she got a cold, it would go to her chest... Then
JK> one day when she was about 18 mos. old, she had a tremendous food
JK> allery attack... just out of the blue.. EVERYTHING I gave her to eat
JK> made her sick.. That's when the "gray" face thing happened one night
JK> (she just had a cold). After that, the dr. had me introduce every
JK> single food to her all over again, one at a time but first he had her
JK> eat lollypops and jello for two weeks and she didn't mind that :) ..
JK> and then I knew what she was allergic to and we could go from there
JK> when she'd get a cold etc.. It turned out then that the only meats she
JK> could eat were turkey and lamb (later she couldn't), and the only
JK> fruit she could tolerate was uncooked apples.. and the only vegetables
JK> that she could eat were greenbeans ... certainly no dairy :(

WHEW! That was not a fun time for you. Even with the lollypops and
jello, I suspect you had to watch for some of the artifical colors and
flavorings. Rachel had a few minor food allergies when she was little
but out grew them fairly fast. Deborah had some allergies to skin
lotions and some ingredients in natural tooth paste; I think she's
pretty well outgrown them as well.

>> Yeah, I've heard that Hawaii is very expensive for cost of living
>> etc.. I guess we'll have to get rich then (grin)

JK> > Yes, unless you want to live on the beach.

JK> (laugh) don't tell Ron that then haha.. but really he knows already
JK> (g). He could live on a beach like that, so could I :)

It's not as pleasureable as it sounds.

JK> > are cracking down on the homeless now so......... A lot of the
JK> > homeless folks there are working but are homeless because they don't
JK> > make enough money to afford housing.

JK> That is so sad... cuts to gov't funding probably don't help.. I love
JK> these cities that tried to say that other agencies couldn't hand out
JK> food to the homeless..(well, you know, they'd gather around, looking
JK> icky in the 'hood) :(

Can't win for losing with some of these agencies and government
programs.

JK> > about it tho is that my younger brother lives across the street from
JK> > them and checks on them every day. If he can't, (younger) friends
JK> of my > parents look in on them.

JK> Our problem was that Mom and Dad sold that gigantic house in
JK> "yuppieville" Warwick NY and gave my second oldest sister just about
JK> all of the $$ to keep them when my Dad got so sick with lung cancer.
JK> She was to build a new house with the down payment, and give them two
JK> rooms. She did that, and they lived there for a while and all was
JK> good.. then she got crazy.. yelling at Mom all the time.. it was sad
JK> hearing it. It got even worse after my Dad died. I had her here In
JK> Windsor for 3 months, and she was the most innocuous person you could
JK> imagine. I just wish it wasn't so cold here :( But then I didn't have
JK> a problem with my MIL or FIL living with us either. It makes me think
JK> that some people just can't deal with other people in their house,
 JK> really.

That does sound bad; I'm glad your mom got the time with you she did.

JK> > This was far enough away so as not to be a problem unless you wanted
JK> to > go up to Carr Canyon or Miller Peak. We were about a mile in
JK> elevation > on post but the peaks were higher.

JK> Ah, so you could look at it but not feel the cold? That would work

Oh you could feel it alright! It did snow on post from time to time but
(usually) didn't stick around. Daytime highs might get into the 40s or
50s and it could chill off big time at night. Winter clothes got used
there but not as much as they would in NY.

>> look like I'm going to get an early spring though :(

JK> > Sigh! But then you expect that sort of thing up there.

JK> Yeah, you know I really didn't want to leave KY.. well if we did, I
JK> didn't want to go somewhere _colder_ than where I grew up... but at
JK> least this is back up north (g). I didn't do to well at all with the
JK> "warm" down there :) And sometimes, it seems almost like Orange County
JK> here (g) Global Warming?? (grin)

Crazy weather patterns. They've happened for centuries and will for who
knows how much longer. Ever read aout the year with no summer in the
1800s?
