Relatives got the evil Rupert's Foxtel installed in my house, but
eventually I managed to escape its clutches.

You could do what my mother did.  She was an enthusiastic follower of
cricket, which at one time was only broadcast by a commercial TV
station, so she had her TV tuned to the cricket with the sound off,
while listening to the commercial-free ABC radio commentary of the
same game.

In the days when I used to attend speedway racing, the smell of
castor oil based Castrol "R" was definitely part of the atmosphere.
What does ice hockey smell like?
