Ärende: trip 2 Sac 720
======================
US3040 BWI PHL 1100 1146 ER4 12F

I booked these flights with a bizarre long connection because
the combo was $100 cheaper than more convenient flights, so
a 2 1/2 hour trip turned into a 5 1/2 hour one - not so bad, as
I can work on the computer while I wait, if I'm not too lazy,
plus the east coast flights are pretty wretched in the timely
department anyway.

Decided to haul a suitcase of chocolate, hot sesame oil, and
bamboo shoots in chili sauce back north so checked the bag
despite knowing that it would sit there for a while in
Philadelphia, which is known far and wide as bag Hell.

The Jungle Jets (the manufacturer, Embraer, is in Brazil, hence
the nickname) are much more comfortable than the competitive
products made elsewhere, and I was happy to be on one, in an
exit row with nobody next to me - better than first class,
and anyhow this plane doesn't have first class.

Only 20 fairly bumpy minutes in the air.

I alit and assuaged my meat withdrawal at Johnnie's Dog House:

hamburger - an honest hamburger, just like what you would pay
19c for when you were a kid. Well-done, the grease squeezed
out on the griddle to make sure it wouldn't stick, on a
 buttered toasted bun. C+ $3.95

hot dog - other than it's very salty, a decent version, some
garlic flavor, some meat flavor, good texture. C+ $2.25

Lots of time to take advantage of free wi-fi at the club and
to hang out at the bar.

US1596 PHL BDL 1540 1649 E90 1F

This is the biggest Jungle Jet and has first class, which
is pretty comfy. I have not sat in coach on this kind of
plane so can't do the comparison.

A chatty fellow who does the roofing for McDonalds was my
seatmate on this short little flight, during which I had a
Glenlivet and several bags of cranberry nut snack mix.

The bag returned to me, #41 despite TWO red priority tags.
It had been rummaged through and had a note to that effect,
but I think it was entirely intact except for the hot sesame
oil (but I may have forgotten to pack it so am not so hasty
to blame the TSA or the baggage handlers in Philly).

Clean Dave picked me up in his (apparently soon to be Lynnie's)
new blue Smart coupe, and off we went to Chez Clean, where we
feasted on London broil, Brussels sprouts, and potato wedges.

I started off by glomming a couple ribs off Dave's mom's
birthday pork roast - Dave had seasoned the meat with rosemary
and garlic and grilled it up with a finish of that orange wood
that he's so proud of. The ribs were fabulous.

Two London broils were done two ways - medium rare and blood
rare. Guess which one was better? The Brussels had been cooked
to near crispiness and were lovely, and the twice-cooked taters
were browned hard on both cut sides and tasted good for starch.

Tasted here:

Munson's milk chocolate potato chips - pretty much what you
would expect. Not my favorite - they seemed sort of like
Krackel, only not so crunchy and not quite so milky, and I
wonder about Lynnie's fondness for them.

Santander
36% milk chocolate - good for milk chocolate, with creamy
and chocolaty and vanillary tastes. Why has the American
public gone for the stinky-cheesy Hershey's taste?

70% dark chocolate with passionfruit had bits of freeze-dried
unidentifiable fruit in an otherwise pretty nice, hard-melting
chocolate.

Mtn Dew Game Fuel Alliance Blue flavor - like a carbonated
version of Hawaiian punch only sweeter and with caffeine.
It had no blue goodness.

Hot capicolla - from Dave's stash. Excellent - the hotness
moderate and underscoring a subtle but persistent chilpotle
(chipotle) smokiness. The meat was resilient but not tough
- this was extra aged as an experiment: it would be too
texturous to eat in big thick slices, but cut paper thin
was extraordinary, the equal of anything you'd get at
Balducci's or Dean & Deluca or probably in Italy.
