What program are you using to read/reply to messages?  You may have
mentioned it, but I don't recall if you did.

Naturally.  It seems as if just the new-fangled things have all the
difficulty. :)

I finally "upgraded" my desktop system to Vista as I had gotten the
Vista as a "free upgrade" when I bought the system about 2 1/4 years
ago.  After doing so once, I noticed a S.M.A.R.T message telling me the
drive was about to fail.  That required a trip to Best Buy where I got a
new drive installed (320Gb) to replace the one that was dying (250Gb) at
no cost as it was under a service plan.  Unfortunately, they only
restored it to the original XP with SP3 so I had to do the Vista
"upgrade" all over again.  I had backed up all of my important data so
that was not an issue.  In the meantime, I am figuring out why my father
and father-in-law have been so frustrated at times with Vista.

It decided that it did not want to print a document.  It just sat there
in the queue and blocked any subsequent documents from printing.  It
didn't want to delete either so after repetedly telling it to delete
coupled with rebooting a few times, I finally got the queue unblocked.
I can't say that I had seen any similar behavior in XP.  But then again,
I have only had this printer a short while (HP OfficeJet Pro 8500).
Anyway, now when they ask a question about what to do to fix a problem,
I have an installation where I can look to see what is happening and
maybe offer better advice.

Anyway, here's a double helping of recipes to help cool you off while
you figure out your computer problems:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.04

      Title: Cuisinart Basic Vanilla Ice Cream
 Categories: Desserts, Dairy
      Yield: 10 Servings

      1 c  Whole milk; well chilled
    3/4 c  Granulated Sugar
      2 c  Heavy Cream
      2 ts Pure Vanilla Extract
           ;1-2 tsp to taste

  In a medium bowl, use a hand mixer or a whisk to combine the milk and
  granulated sugar until the sugar is dissolved, about 1 - 2 minutes on
  low speed.  Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla to taste.  Turn
  machine on, pour mixture into freezer bowl through ingredient spout
  and let mix until thickened, about 25 - 30 minutes.

  Nutritional Analysis per serving (1/2 cup):
  Calories 239 (68% from fat)
  Carbohydrates 17g
  Protein 2g
  Fat 18g
  Saturated Fat 11g
  Cholesterol 69mg
  Sodium 30mg

  Variations:

  Mint Chip:  Omit the vanilla and replace with 1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons
  pure peppermint extract (to taste).  Chop your favorite 4-ounce
  bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate bar into tiny uneven pieces.  Add
  the chopped chocolate during the last 5 mintes of mixing.

  Butter Pecan:  Melt 1 stick unsalted butter in a 10-inch skillet.
  Add 1 cup roughly chopped pecans and 1 teaspoon kosher salt.  Cook
  over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until pecans are lightly
  browned. Remove from the heat, strain (the butter will have a pecan
  flavor and may be reserved for another use).  Allow the pecans to
  cool completely.  Add the toasted buttered pecans during the last 5
  mintes of mixing.

  Cookies & Cream:  Add 3/4 cup coarsly chopped cookies or your favorite
  candy (chocolate chip, Oreos(R), Mint Oreos(R), wetc.) during the
  last 5 minutes of mixing.

  Stephen's changes:  Substitute raw sugar for the granulated sugar.
  Processing it into a fine granulation with a food processor helps it
  to dissolve quicker.  Substitute vanilla paste (check places like
  Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or Fresh Market for vanilla paste) as it
  has a more intense flavor and has the bits of vanilla seed that would
  be in a premium ice cream.

      Title: Cuisinart Fresh Mango Sorbet
 Categories: Desserts, Low-fat
      Yield: 10 Servings

      4 ea Mangos, ripe but firm
           ;about 12 oz each, peeled
           ;pitted, and cubed
    2/3 c  Sugar
    1/2 c  Corn syrup
      6 tb Lemon or lime juice, fresh

  Combine the mango cubes, sugar, corn syrup and lemon juice in a
  blender or food processor that has been fitted with the metal blade.
  Pulse to chop, then process until thick and smooth, scraping jar or
  work bowl as necessary with a spatula.  The mano puree may be made up
  to one day ahead; cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

  Turn the machine ON, pour mango puree into freezer bowl through
  ingredient spout and mix until thickened, about 25 - 30 minutes.

  Nutritional Analysis per serving (1/2 cup):
  Calories 190 (2% from fat)
  Carbohydrates 49g
  Protein 1g
  Fat .0g
  Saturated fat 0g
  Cholesterol 0mg
  Sodium 27mg

  Ruth's variation:  Add 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  Stephen's variation:  Substitute raw sugar for the granulated sugar.
