I don't remember having yoghurt in the house growing up.  AFAIR, my
first real exposure to it was from a boyfriend that liked it as snacks,
and got me to try it.  Years later (and I'm not even sure exactly when,
it was definitely long after I was out of the house), my mother
discovered yoghurt, and now eats it regularly.

At least they've cut back on the foods that might be problems for them. 
I can see why they might not want to give up everything, aging takes
away so much as it is.  As to my mom, she decided that she should avoid
all the nightshade family of vegetables because of her arthritis.  So
she doesn't eat tomatoes, potatoes, green peppers, eggplant, etc. at
all.  She thinks it's helpful, maybe so...  :)  She also avoids corn and
corn products, generally... and eats chicken as little as possible,
using turkey instead.

It certainly is harder to get together, the farther apart the family is
physically...  So far, except for the one sister in Great Britain, the
rest of my generation is on the East Coast.  But much of the sorting etc
has happened in bits and pieces... there was a major preliminary part of
it when the house was sold, and they moved into an "inlaw" apartment
built onto my sister's house.  There's still more to do later, but
except for books and bookcases, there's not a lot really major to sort.

Pretty much.  There is a little interest from some of the others, but
they've been content to just find out from me what I find.  Some of the
next generation might become "nuts", but time will tell.

Some just don't see the value in the old... others of us do see how
precious the connection can be.  :)
