We had try outs before the whole high school.  We had to tell the co
ordinator that we wanted to try out; I had my name put in at nearly the
last minute, just on a whim.  A few other girls did also but I was the
only one that made the team.

Now I'm waiting to hear the results of that test.  When I did it in HI,
I just had to do a written test.  One of these days I'll get on--and
beat Ken Jennings' record. (G)

That was when cooking was an all day chore. No air conditioning made it
really bad; a lot of old southern homes had separate kitchen buildings
so the main house would stay (a bit ) cooler.

Yes, we had another cold front come thru last night so we're in the low
60s today, night time is supposed to be in the mid to upper 30s. Beats
single digit highs and lows.

We don't use alcohol so I have to come up with alternatives in recipes.
Sometimes it's easy to see what else would work and give a similar
flavor, other times, I know the flavor will be different but what I will
use will be the best alternative.
