Ärende: bad spaghetti sauces

owwww.. mustard and ketchup... think someone should tell him his body is
probably craving the flavors of wine and tomato paste and Italian peeled
tomatoes? :) I just figured that's why the mustard and ketchup (grin).. though
I've learned there is no accounting for people's tastes :)

I actually sometimes dilute imported balsamic wine vinegar (has to be the good
stuff) with some water and add that to my sauce if I'm out of red wine.  It's
really good.

I like a sweet sauce, though I have never added brown sugar to it.  The
tomatoes I grow in my garden are so darn sweet, you'd swear I added sugar to
the sauce though.. they are that impressive sometimes "If I do say so Myself"
<tm> (grin)

When I run out of garden tomatoes (like I will this year, really early because
the yield was so lousy with the crummy weather we had), and the canned tomatoes
are bitter, I sometimes add a little sugar to my sauce.. just a little.. but
not brown sugar.  I save that kind of thing for Tomato pudding that I serve
with roast beef :) that's especially good..

haha.. tell her to add hot sausage and a touch of red pepper flakes instead of
sugar. It's a change she might like. I like it when I visit my Dad's relatives
in Scranton PA, the Sicilians <smile>.. they make a really hot tomato sauce. My
Northern Italian grandma, my Mom, and relatives from Napoli make a sweeter not
hot spicy sauce.. My sauce is sweeter like the northern Italians in my family
but I've been known to suddenly decide to go sicilian (grin).

Ok around here, you can't make enough it seems :)

The first night it looks like there is sooooo much.. then suddenly, you say
what happened to all the lasagne? :)

Sambuca is great in fruit salad :)

===Macedonia fruit salad===
2 tangerines
1 orange separated into sections, with membrane removed (carefully) 1 apple
sliced thinly
1 banana, sliced
1 bunch of white seedless grapes, sliced in half pineapple, diced w/out core
2 white (or strawberry) peaches, skinned and diced 2 yellow peaches, diced and
skinned 3 nectarines, diced w/skin on
1 bunch seedless red grapes, cut in half 1/4 cantelop, diced
1 cup whole blackberries
2 small tangarines, peeled, sectioned and cut in half, membrane removed 2 cups
strawberries, quartered
1 mango, diced
1 papaya, diced
Grated zest of 1 lemon
Juice of 1/2 lemon, plus more as needed Confectioners sugar
sambuca

Add the lemon juice to the banana slices and apple slices to keep them from
browing.  Put all the fruit in layers in a very large bowl, alternating with a
sprinkling of confectioners sugar (perhaps a tablespoon or two for each layer
but don't go crazy). Continue until all the fruit is used up. When done, add
the lemon zest and toss with tongs until well mixed. Let sit for about 10 or 15
minutes. Add about 2-3 tablespoons of sambuca. Toss again. Refrigerate coverd
with plastic wrap until ready to serve.

This one lasts about 1/2 hour in our house :)
