I trust you -- especially considering that you started out as a printer
and know a lot about type fonts:-}}

I did look up fraktur, and what I found looks a lot like that first H
symbol -- but none of the variants matched exactly and none of them did
the T in the same way.  Then Gail discovered an Ebay listing for our
exact waffle iron, complete with pictures -- including the trademark
stamp on the bottom in very clear detail.  URL for that link is:

His waffle iron looks a lot shinier on the outside than ours does, but
the inside looks nicely seasoned as does ours.  The handles and all
details are a perfect match -- which according to his statements means
that ours probably dates from 1930 or before.  I think that his price is
ridicously low.  That other link for refurbishing old waffle irons
wanted $100 or more.  Even with shipping and handling included, this
listing is less than $25.

      Title: Garlic-Tomato Soup
 Categories: Soup, Vegetarian
      Yield: 4 servings
 
     20    Cloves garlic -- peeled and
           Sliced
      4 tb Butter
      2    Tomatoes -- peeled/seeded/di
           Ed
    1/2 c  Carrots -- chopped
    1/4 c  Celery -- chopped
    1/4 c  Onion -- chopped
      4 c  Chicken broth
      1    Egg -- separated
    1/2 tb Cider vinegar
           Salt -- to taste
 
  In a large saucepan, cook the garlic in the butter over medium heat
  until very
  soft, about 10 minutes.  Stir in tomatos and cook briefly.  Add
  carrots, celery, and onion; cook until onion is soft.  Stir in broth
  and simmer, uncovered, until vegetables are tender.  Remove from heat.
  
  In a separate bowl, combine egg yolk and vinegar; beat slightly.
  Carefully stir in 2-3 ladlesful of soup.  Stir mixture back into soup
  a little at a time.  Without beating beforehand, whisk egg white into
  soup.  Season to taste
  with salt and pepper.  Heat through but do not boil.
