At the time we took it, weekly. The next year I think it was twice a week.
Now
it seems to be...jumping onto the wonderful WorldWideWait...it depends,
sometimes twice a week and others once. But I only looked at a 2-3 week period
in early June.

I think we were the only non-Europeans on the plane. Funny to watch the cabin
crew wandering down the aisles doling out cartons of smokes, for cash. Which
were broken down to individual packs and secreted away by the passengers. I'm
sure the duty was paid for each and every one of them...either in America or
Germany...and that nobody went over the limit of 200 cigarettes. :-)

> Fiji is good, and on the international route across the Pacific. The

Yeah...that's why we've been there twice. Stopped on the way to NZ the first
time, and practically keeled over from heat frustration. Stopped on the way
back from AU, even I can learn to slowly acclimatize. Which is why our
Australian trip pretty much ended up in Cairns. We've done the midroute stop
at
least 3 times, when headed south, that I recall. Fiji/Australia/New
Zealand/Cook Islands...with a stop, once, in Hawaii because it was on the way
to
the Cook Islands. We really like Kauai and went there when we had a chance
(probably been there about 6 times, if there's a road we've driven it). You
gotta realize that when we were doing all of this I was working, no kids we pay
cash for everything including cars excluding the house which is now paid for,
and in the dead of the winter you need to see something that's green growing
out
of the ground, otherwise you go postal (sorry Hap). Hawaii is only about a 6
hour flight and relatively cheap, compared to Alaska prices it's about the
same.
Heck a couple of years before I retired they had a meeting in Honolulu that I
was paid to go to, meaning we left a week early and bought a ticket for Connie,
we flew down together on a Saturday (temps had dropped to -20F and stayed that
way for the next week or two) then we magically ended up on Kauai. Connie flew
back to Anchorage on Saturday (still bitterly cold) and on Sunday I arrived for
the weeklong meeting. Our biggest problem was finding someone to watch our
animals/house, until I retired we'd always had two German Shepard/Black Lab
type
dogs, a cat and we didn't kennel them. The critters have all come from the
slammer. The dogs kicked off and were never replaced, almost the first time
I've never had a dog (the first I remember rode in a Willys Jeep Wagon from
Oklahoma to Anchorage with us in 1951).

Trains would be good. Is it possible to stop for the night and catch a morning
one the next day? Hate to miss all the miles and miles of miles and miles
broken by the occasional rock/sand dune to spice the scenery up. :-)

Went to the library and checked out three books. "How to read a french fry",
"How to cook everything", and "The new basics cookbook". So here's the first
of
3 recipes that we found interesting.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

Title: Fettuccine with Spinach, Butter, & Cream
 Categories: Vegetables, Main dish, Ffbb
      Yield: 4 Servings

     10 oz Fresh spinach, trimmed,
           - washed, and dried
      4 tb Butter, 1/2 stick
1 ea Salt & pepper to taste
1 c Heavy cream, light cream, or
           - half-and-half
      1 lb Spaghetti, linguine, or
           - fettuccine
      1 c Freshly grated Parmesan
           - cheese

The combination of spinach and cream is old fashioned but great. This
sauce is also good with a liberal grating of nutmeg added to it.

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.

  2. Chop the spinach coarsely. Over medium heat melt 2 tablespoons
of the butter in a large skillet that can later be covered. Add the
spinach, along with some salt and pepper. Cover, reduce the heat,
and cook, stirring occasionally, until the spinach is very tender,
about 10 minutes. Uncover, add half the cream, and cook gently for
  about 5 minutes.

  3. Meanwhile, salt the boiling water and cook the pasta until it is
tender but firm. When it is just about done, put the remaining
butter in a large, warm bowl and add a couple of tablespoons of the
cooking water. Drain the pasta and toss it with the butter and half
the Parmesan. Add the spinach sauce and serve, passing the remaining
  Parmesan at the table.
