Hi Ruth,

Just remembered who bought Giant out over here.. It's Weiss. Haven't been in
the store since they took over.. I should check it out though :)

I've bought brown basmati at wegmens.. you can get maybe 1 lb. bags there.. I
have to check the size.. maybe it's 2 lbs.. anyway, it's great rice and we both
like the flavor a lot. That's a good size bag for us...And that way I don't
have tons of it lying around getting rancid (though that doesn't seem to happen
here that I've noticed).

I'm not sure if that's it. Who knows really, I'd love to write to them and ask
them (g). Maybe I'll write to Progresso.. I used to love using their
breadcrumbs but haven't bought them in ages.. since all the garbage about hfcs
came out, and knowing about my daughter's kids problems with corn, well there
you have it. It wasn't a hard choice to make (g). Maybe they think like with
so many other prepared foods, that the flavor should be sweet.. Yuck..

I think our farmer's market goes from 8-1pm.. that's not too bad. I figured if
I got there at a reasonable time, it wouldn't be so crowded.. and that was
true. A lot easier to walk around when you don't have tons of people around.
We didn't go this morning though.. we had to get some plants for the garden
since I didn't have all the seed I wanted.. I got a number of corn plants that
I figure I'll put in that caged area in the backyard.. so the doggies can't get
them :) :)
>> Yeah you don't want to start them inside at least, and then have to

They like to spread it seems.. we have them around the gazebo.. I noticed the
pups digging at them furiously last week but the plants didn't seem to care
(g). I bought some catnip plants at Agway today that I figure to put around
the front of the gazebo.. kitties should like that :)

My strawberry plants that were planted the year of the picnic died in real cold
snap we got sometime later after the picnic. I was surprised they didn't make
it. It probably had to do with the fact that were not in the ground, but I'd
planted them in one of those earth boxes.. that contraption can't hold much
heat from the daytime sun. Oh well. so much for strawberries (g).. but my
blueberry plants have flowers on them, so that's neat.
>> The temperatures during the day here are about 75F most days.. lows at

>> Not tomatoes though. I'll wait until mid-may most likely for them..
>> They love the warm days :)
> My dad usually had his garden put in arund Memorial Day.
I take some chances, but all in all, you can tell whether the soil is ready for
some kinds of vegetables, etc. And some of them need the cold, not spring
warm.. like peas.. and lettuce.. and beets. Also, using garden beds makes an
enormous difference. The soil in them warms up a lot faster than the soil in a
garden does. I wouldn't put Tomatoes out this week (g).. good thing, too,
we're supposed to get 'snow' tomorrow, but probably only some flurries early in
the morning. I figure next week sometime or next weekend for the tomato plants
I started from seed. I have 7 early girl plants, and 7 roma plants.. that
should be plenty for eating fresh and canning this summer... as long as the
weather behaves itself this season (g).
>> I love the 80's as long as it's not humid.. :) And as long as it

> The humidity is the killer there. It's unseasonably warm here (low 90s)

> Little to no humidity but it still is too hot when it gets to 90+.
I can imagine that. We have had monsterous winds all day today, and warmish
weather (about 65-69F).. but tonight it's going to drop.. crud. These swings
in temperature outside really do my legs in.
Oh .. on a note about that new med I was supposed to get to help my walking..
the insurance company rejected my claim - said they wouldn't approve my doc's
request unless I take what's called one of the CRAB drugs (Copaxone, Rebif,
Avonex and Betaseron). But my doc _won't_ put me on any of those because they
are not for the kind of MS that have (g)... so my doctor wrote to the insurance
company and from what I understand from his nurse, he really gave it to them in
his "appeal". I'd bet the insurance company (Aetna) just figures if they make
things difficult, people will just give up.. this drug will cost them about
$1000.00+ a month.

Yes, they really really are. In more ways than one (g).. I bought them three
really long (about 3 ft.) chicken-flavored chews at agway, and they're gone
already :) :)

But her life has been rough enough this year, I think she ought to enjoy things
if she can. She made it through breast cancer thankfully, and is still getting
radiation therapy so hopefully that will take care of any surprises.. poor
Mom.. I felt so bad for her. It was a spot that my dr. here in Binghamton
picked up when mom visted the time before last. she ignored it until she
couldn't.. (that's sad). I can understand her fears though.

hahaha.. that's true. My sister is big on "cleaning out junk that no one
needs" anymore. So I did throw in one of my newer graters.. it's easy to turn.
She shouldn't have any trouble with it :) I have this huge grater that I use
now .. don't think I had it at the picnic, but I might have.. it's the size of
a toaster, maybe, but lower, and it will grind cheese or make bread crumbs..
It's electric so all I have to do is push a button.. but it cost $200.00 so I
think they were expecting to sell this thing to restaurants :)

Yes, we do the same.. it's nice though to pick up a pork roast like we did at
the farmer's market.. that was soooooo good the other night.. then tonight with
the leftovers, I made polynesian pork (I'd bought a pineapple this week). Heh..
if I can get the top of the pineapple to root, I want to start growing
pineapples inside.
> extended times are usually less than a week, actually. A lot of times
> if we go to a steak house, I'll take half of mine home.
Yes, I can rarely finish what they serve at restaurants.
Take care,
Janis
