Hi Rugh,

>> It's like the Giardino's and Giordano's on the east coast.. I am
>> related to a number of Giardino's but not Giordano's. The original
>> spelling of Giardino was actually Giardina, in Italy. The helpful
>> agents at immigration changed it for Grandpa (g).

Yes, that was always my understanding as well.

> I've also seen as Weis and Weisse. And, a varient, one of my professors

You see many types of spelling varients in last names, that's for sure. One of
my uncles, and one of my cousins have enjoyed creating family trees on both
sides of the family - that was very interesting to see.

>> I just use a normal pot with a tight fitting lid.. Never had need to

hehe.. the saucepan is the same, with the exception of setting a timer in my
kitchen :)

> it does its thing. Some have a steamer rack or basket; my first one (a

Steaming is a healthier way to cook vegetables, that's true.. that could be a
bonus.

With my saucepan, it's just a matter of setting it for 40 minutes rather than
25, so no bother there. If I'm making Italian rice, risotto, you really can't
mimic the hand stirring to create creamy rice.

>> I'd bet they have some canned answer, given the number of people who
>> won't eat HFCS. Waiting for a response from them (g).

> If it's Progresso, it will be a canned answer. (G)

Yep no doubt (bg).. but still no answer. I'll try again in a few days .. maybe
if I just keep at them, they'll get the hint :)

>> Yes, you just have to remove some of the 'fat' from the backs, but it
>> tastes great :)

> I usually made the stock with all the fat, then skimmed from the

> it definately lacked the flavor fat gives it.

Yes, that happens for sure. When I make chicken stock with the whole chicken
for some of my chinese recipes, that whole bird makes the best stock.

>> Yes, I love the spring and summer because of my garden.. In the fall I
>> don't do as much gardening as I could if I could stand the chillier

> It can cool off pretty early up there. (G) We had a bit of a garden at

I did the same when the kids were small, but luckily could keep the kids
occupied close to me in the garden area, so I could weed it, etc. I think we
probably wouldn't have survived without that garden back then :) I think the
kids were about 6 and 3 1/2 at the time I'm thinking of.

>> That's great :) It really is the way I love greenbeans the most. You
>> can serve them cold, or warm or tepid. I think I like tepid the best.

> I think so too. I had the left overs, cold, today. The balsamic
> vinegar was a bit too sharp cold.

You could stir it up some when that happens, or leave it at room temperature
for a bit and then toss.. might help.

>> (bg).. But we got the estimate today.. about $800+ for a new exhaust
>> system - painful.. Ah well.. what can you do. Car is in great shape
>> otherwise, so we'll go with the repair and forgo new car payments.
>> Should be ready in a day or so.

> Ouch! But, as you say, it beats several years of car payments. That's
> how our van lasted for 14 years. When the AC went out in 06 tho, we
> figured it wouldn't be worth the cost (about value of the van) to fix

Yes, that's rough when a car gets to that point.

>> tomorrow the weather report is saying we'll have a high of 77F. Think
>> I'll try to get the tomatoes in the ground tomorrow... but I'll have
>> to get out there before it heats up that much. I need time to ease
>> into the seasonal changes.

> I know what you mean. We've had more of a gradual transition from
> winter to spring, with a bit of summer thrown in this year. Problem is,
> summer will be here all too soon and last too long.

Can't last long enough for my taste (vbg).. I dread the winters now but given
this last winter, I don't know anywhere where it will suit me (g). Seems like
everyone got cold this past winter... very strange temperatures anyway.

Seems since we got her. Two very different temperaments between the two pups.
I know Indy eats everything in sight, so perhaps Sophie's reaction is just one
to make sure she gets something to eat.

Yes, what we do now is stand there while she's eating. She doesn't make a peep
if we're in the kitchen.

Take care,
Janis
