ML> until they entered the toilet, the harvesting of methane could
 ML> probably be effected.
GJ> Can you control that for long enough?
ML> I'm fairly good (less good than earlier) - it is generally considered
ML> polite in airplanes, for example, to try to hold out until one has
ML> the opportunity to go to the toilet. But United's cloth upholstered
ML> seats were better in absorbing leakage than the newer leather ones.

I have been studying that particular phenomenon lately, while
travelling from Warsaw to Paris on LOT, after enjoying a meal of
the traditional Polish bigos, which you doubtless know is sliced
sausage and/or other meats simmered with onions and other vegetables
in sauerkraut soup for ages. That is a dish which can be lovely,
robust and filling, but also an effective gas producer. On the trams
and buses in Warsaw, the windows were usually, and of necessity, left
partly open to improve ventilation. If they had to be closed because
of rain, the trams quickly became "stuffy".

As it is difficult to open plane windows, their ventilation system is
arranged so that fresh air travels downwards from the adjustable
overhead nozzles, and out of the cabin at a lower level, carrying with
it any additional, passenger-generated gasses. Therefore my own
emissions were, as far as I know and noticed, undetectable.

ML> An alternative would be to have a little collector with one at
 ML> all times ...

I believe that young, uncouth boys on occasions amuse themselves with
matches, attempting to ignite each other's farts. I never managed to
get that to work.

ML> I avoid pulses, cruciferous things, and dairy products when
ML> about to fly about in a tube. Decreases the biogas.

Jet Airways of India has no compunction about serving vegetarian meals
containing all those items and more on long flights, to over half the
passengers. The aircon system seems to cope.

GJ> I'm sure you would at least try to control the plane if the pilot was
GJ> incapable of doing so. I have never done it, but I think that I would
GJ> at least have a chance of landing/crashing safely. Better than the
 GJ> alternative.
ML> I suppose that 1% is better than 0%. But it's not much to
 ML> build confidence on.

I estimate my chances of success, depending on the type of aeroplane,
would be at least 10%, and even higher if I could use the radio to
contact the control tower for instructions and to avoid running into
other aircraft. Certainly better than just sitting and screaming.

ML> photos of me in an absinthe-fueled frenzy pushing
ML> her on a luggage cart at top speed through a certain

ML> Last year, through an essentially deserted airport and an
ML> immigration checkpoint, laughing at the top of our lungs.
ML> I believe that we were soberly dressed (if not sober),
ML> beyond the age when people would be expected to do this,
ML> and Lufthansa business class passengers had something to
ML> do with the noninterference by Uzied storm troopers.

That qualification would have raised you from the "drunk and
disorderly" level to "respected wealthy eccentric".

GJ> I also prefer to travel with a female. Her presence discourages the
GJ> touts for "nice girls", and accommodation is much cheaper if shared.
ML> She insists on two rooms or a suite, as otherwise her husband
ML> would have cause for complaint, so this last is no advantage.

Fortunately I normally don't have that problem, except in KL, where
moral Malaysian Airlines gave us a double room each, in which to
unwind after a rather bouncy flight from CDG, Paris.

ML> Except if I have to fly from Houston I will continue to
ML> avoid Continental until the reciprocal first-class
ML> accommodation for high elites takes effect.
 GJ> When will that be?
ML> Not sure. Supposedly later this year.

I noticed that United and Continental are still displaying their own
respective insignias.

Had these a couple of times. Not bad.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Cabbage Rolls (Polish Style)
 Categories: Polish
      Yield: 4 Servings

      2 lb Ground Beef, lean
    1/2 c Rice, uncooked
      1 md Onion, Diced
      1 Green Pepper, Diced
      2 Eggs
      1 lg Head Cabbage
      2 qt Tomato Juice

PREPARE THE CABBAGE LEAVES: The Old timers would freeze the head
solid, then peel the leaves from the head as they thawed. The best
way I've found is to 1)cut the core out with a knife, then put the
hole-where-the-core- was, side down in a steamer over boiling water.
Let it sit for about 10 minutes and remove. Several layers of the
outer leaves should be soft enough to remove from the head. When
you've removed as many as you can, return the head to the steamer to
soften more leaves. Take a sharp knife and remove as much of the
central vein as you can. FILLING: Mix all the other ingredients
together in a bowl. work it with your hands until the eggs and other
ingredients except the tomato juice are thoroughly mixed into the
meat. Now, take a glob of mixture and set it in the hollow of a
deveined leaf, with the end that was near the core towards you. Fold
the end nearest you about / way over the mix. Fold the left side over
the mix and then the right side. Roll about / turn away from you so
that the "seam" is on the bottom. Place in the pan seam side don and
continue with the other leaves.* When you've made the last cabbage
roll, pour in the tomato juice to cover. Bring to a boil then simmer
for AT LEAST an hour. Serve in a bowl with the juice, although these,
like spaghetti are better the 2nd day.

*This is an ideal cabbage roll. 3/4 of them won't go together this
perfectly, so be ready to make adjustments when making the rolls.

VARIATIONS: Garlic is great, paprika and chili powder will work in the
stuffing, V-8 instead of tomato juice is pleasantly different.

MMMMM
