We were each given a double room, on opposite sides of the corridor.

As it happened, because we only had a few hours to spend there, I
uncharacteristically generously forked out Rm 450 for a hire car and
(Indian) driver to take us around the main sights of KL, and we
happily dined at a small restaurant in Little India, recommended by
the driver.  Dhum aloo for me, and vegetable balls for my fair
companion.  Very good and cheap.  Then at my request, the driver took
us into the "country", where he found a roadside stall which sold
fresh, warm, fully ripe durians.  Leonore and I consumed one
completely; it was absolutely wonderful, with the flesh soft and
custardy, easily sucked off the seeds.  Heaven!

I noticed that our durian had 6 divisions instead of the usual 5, but
only 5 had edible content.

      Title: Green Bean and Durian Soup
 Categories: Malaysian, Asian, Durian
      Yield: 8 Servings
 
      1 kg Dried green mung beans
      2 l  Water
      1    Pandanus leaf, knotted
    350 g  Palm sugar (gula melaka)
     10    Seeds from 1 sm durian
      1    Coconut, for milk
 
  Method: Boiling 1. Wash the mung beans under running water in a
  strainer. Heat two litres of water in a deep pot over medium heat,
  and when it boils, add mung beans and pandan leaf. Cover and simmer
  over low heat, stirring occasionally, until beans are cooked through
  and tender (they will break apart when fully cooked).
  
  2. Add palm sugar and simmer until it has melted, then add durian and
  coconut milk and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Turn off heat and
  allow soup to sit for at least 30 minutes for flavours to blend and
  mellow. Reheat to serve, adding a little water if soup is too thick.
  Serve hot.

  rich treat in the Nonya tradition. Made with mung beans and fragrant
  durian, it's a dessert that has an acquired taste.
  
  [Note by Glen: The reference to durian "seeds" would be to the pulp
  around the seeds - normally 10 in a small durian.]
