Greetings Sean,

GJ> Recent privacy intrusions on Facebook are worrying, and a further
 GJ> discouragement.
SD> Two simple things to avoid "privacy intrusions":

SD> 1) Make sure you have your privacy settings set to "friends only". I
SD> don't see many people reposting my drivel, so it doesn't bother me.

I don't let anyone in who I don't already know personally, face to face.

SD> 2) Don't say anything that you wouldn't want the whole world to know.
SD> There is no such thing as privacy on the Internet.

Very true! Many people forget that, and unthinking disclosures can
come back and bite them.

SD> I keep in contact with many of my extended family members and nearly
SD> all of my friends that I've kept in touch with over the years through
SD> Facebook and it's a very nice way to keep in touch /as long as you
SD> remember what Facebook is and don't expect more out of it than what's
SD> realistic/. FB is also a business and they are there to make money, so
SD> when you see something about data mining and what-not, you would be
SD> terribly naieve to think that it's some sort of "privacy invasion".

I prefer to use emails, phone texting and more recently, Skype, for
maintaining contact with friends and extended family - and of course,
international travel.

SD> I've been on Facebook for a while now and I've never had a problem
SD> with my "privacy" being "violated". Then again, with anything
SD> "social", common sense should be applied. Heck, as a federally
SD> licensed amateur radio operator, my home address is available (and
SD> quite easily found) on the Internet as a rule of law. You don't see me

One of my sons is a police sergeant, so he is careful not to use his
real name, as there are some people out there who have reason not to
like him, and who could try to get back at him by harming his family.

SD> going off and becoming paranoid. Then again, I do have a loaded
SD> double-barreled shotgun in case of strangers coming to the door. <G>

I wouldn't dare have a fire-arm in the house, as it might go off and
hurt someone. After all, most people who get shot are known to the
owner of the gun. Strangers in Australia are not scary; most only
want to collect for the Red Cross or sell me phone connections, roof
seals, security shutters or their religion. Any others can be kept
out by a good security door. In any case, I don't have anything
anyone would want, like marijuana growing in the back room.

Although I am younger than our revered ancient sage, Burt, I am hardly
a spring chicken, but I have relied on my natural charm (G) to get me
out of potentially risky situations, and so far at least, that has
worked.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

Title: Evil Jungle Prince with Chicken (Or With Mixed Vegetables
 Categories: Thai, Chicken, Main dish
      Yield: 4 Servings

    1/2 lb Boneless chicken breast
           -OR-
    1/2 lb -Mixed vegetables,
           - (see note below)
      2 -to
      6 sm Red chile peppers
    1/2 Stalk fresh lemon grass
      2 Kaffir lime leaves
      2 tb Oil
    1/2 c Coconut milk
    1/2 ts Salt
      1 -to
      4 tb Fish sauce,
           - based on personal taste
           - (omit for veggie version)
     10 -to
     15 Basil leaves
      1 c Chopped cabbage

Thinly cut chicken into 2-inch strips. (If doing veggie version, cut
vegetables into thin strips.) Grind together red chili peppers, lemon
grass, and kaffir lime leaves in a food processor or pound in a
mortar. Heat oil to medium-high and saute pepper mixture for 3
minutes. Stir in coconut milk and cook for 2 minutes. Add chicken
(or vegetables) and cook for 5 minutes or until cooked (same time for
veggies). Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in fish sauce (if using),
salt, and basil. Serve on a bed of chopped cabbage.

Note: For mixed vegetables, choose from among bell peppers, string
beans, water chestnuts, tomatoes (small cherry tomatoes are best),
bamboo shoots, miniature corn, asparagus, cucumbers, zucchini,
Japanese eggplant, and mushrooms. I particularly like string beans
or asparagus, a few cherry tomatoes, shredded (rather than sliced)
bamboo shoots, miniature corn, and some straw mushrooms or slender
  (Japanese) eggplant.

  (3-4 servings)
