============
Hi Janis,

JK> > Sometimes the rest stops aren't convenient when you need them.

JK> I know :) Have you ever traveled through a state that keeps you
JK> wondering about how long you'll have to go to find one? (vbg).

Yes, and just after you've pulled off at a fast food place or
convenience store and gotten back on the highway, there's your rest
stop. Law of "go figure" again.

JK> > traveling off the interstates, you have to find stops where you can.
JK> > Fast food places are good for them as well, with a minimal purchase.

JK> Yep.. one time, I made the mistake of ordering a hamburger at
JK> BurgerKing .. wow it tasted like glue, honestly :)

UGH! I usually order chicken at fast food places. Every so often, but
not much, is it worse than the beef. Usually the beef is beyond my idea
of something tasty. Besides, I know, except for Backyard Burger, most
places don't put mustard on chicken but they will on a hamburger unless
you remember in time to request it without.

JK> Same here really. The heatwave was followed by seasonably warm temps
JK> (about 70F) Today actually got a little higher than that (g).

We're in mid to uper 90s with the occaisional night time storm.

JK> > Better off in the long run probably.

JK> Definitely. It will no doubt be tight with $$ some weeks, though the
JK> monthly payment was lower than expected since we got a good interest
JK> rate, lower than we expected, after all. We won't though be pouring
JK> $$ into the car and that feels wonderful (g).

Always a nice feeling to knw you're not contributing toward an on going
problem. That was part of the reason we decided to get a new vehicle
when the AC went out on our 14 year old van. Not only would it have
cost as much as the van was worth to fix it, we didn't know what would
go next. So, we got the Focus, which ended up not being such a good deal
(but all the work was covered under the extended warranty) and now we
have the Escape. So far, so good on that--got a recall notice but will
have it fixed next week when it goes in for the 15,000 mile check up.

JK> Dad > is doing a bit of container gardening after all--several tomato
JK> plants > and some lettuce.

JK> That sounds good :) Glad he is giving it a shot.

So am I; it'll do him some good. We got some organic strawberries this
evening; I'll make a batch of jam first thing Monday morning.

JK> > Sounds good. Steve is more the pea eater than I am. We bought some
JK> a > few weeks ago--they were good but a lot of work for a little
 JK> yield.

JK> These are sugar snap peas so you don't have to shell them. I think I
JK> planted peas with inedible shells ONCE in my life (bg). After that
JK> shelling experience, I decided sugar snaps were the way to go (vbg).
 JK> You can let them
JK> fully develop and shell them if you want, or you can just pick them
JK> when they are at the stir-fry size.

Some of these were nice stir fry size but most were beyond that. OTOH,
got some nice young zuchini that may go into a stir fry. One was already
eaten raw, cut up into "sticks."

JK> > Goat's milk? For flavor or what?

JK> Yes, it does help the flavor.

>> juice. One day I actually made mascarpone cheese as well :) Then

JK> > Steve said his mom never bought mascapone; I thought he'd grown up
JK> with > cannoli but he said the first time he had them was at an
JK> Italian place > in AZ.

JK> Ah.. Cannoli were a staple at mom's on every holiday. We loved them

One thing we like about Carrabba's is that they put 2 on a plate for
dessert. Makes splitting a dessert easy. (G)

>> after letting it sit in the frige for a day (you have to do that), I
>> made tiramisu for Ron and I. It was great :) But you need a quart of
>> heavy cream to make that. :)

JK> > IOW, very rich! I like the cannoli better than tiramisu but that's
 JK> > because I don't like coffee.

JK> Understand :) Ron loves tiramisu now that I've made it a few times :)
JK> This last time I made the lady fingers out of Italian Sponge cake as
JK> well. We ate the extras for breakfast with our morning coffee :)

Got to use them up some how. (G)

JK> Cannoli is made with ricotta though. For that though I might buy the
JK> ricotta. otherwise it's a lot of milk to make enough for the filling
 JK> the tubes.

And I don't have time for that much work most days.
