====================================================================
Hi Janis,
We made it to NY but found our phones don't work in Margaretville. If
you need to contact us, use the e-mail in the signature lines or the one
Steve put out the other day. If all goe well, we'll see you early
afternoon next Wednesday.
JK> tried to
JK> > project 50 years ahead.
JK> I don't know of a person who could think that far ahead (g) And I
JK> guess it depends on what's important to you 'at the time'. It could
JK> have been more uncomfortable to take up living space then with a
JK> washer/dryer.
Planned for, it can fit in well. We've always had our washer & dryer on
the main (sometimes it's the only) floor. Some places we've had a
utility room we could shut the door on; in WF we have an area off the
kitchen behind folding doors.
Living in so many places has given us an idea of what to look for if we
ever buy an established house or what we'd like done if we ever build
one. A single level place seems to be the best way to go now, if we
have enough land. A basement would be nice but not vital. So many other
things have been discussed--some ideas are keepers, others are "no, I
didn't like when we had it at such & such a place so let's not do it
here" thoughts.
JK> >Then too, he built as compactly as he could.
JK> > When he started, there were only 3 kids. Number 4 was born about a
JK> week > after moving in; #5 came 19 months later. It was a tight fit
JK> Makes sense.
Makes me wonder how we fit in. Youngest was 11 when oldest went to
college; that was a help. Except for the summer after freshman year, I
wasn't home much other than holidays after I started college, then got
married a few months after finishing. That helped the space crunch.
JK> > Looking back, we should have approached my folks about a remodel job

JK> have > been there and they might have been more open to it instead of
JK> being so > set against it as they are now.
JK> That would have been good for them ..
Agreed; the kitchen was done about 32/33 years ago. They should have
considered at that time drawing up plans for more of a remodel later.
20/20 hindsight.
>> hear anything strange though. Right now you should check the date when
>> you bought it, you only have a one year warranty. :(
JK> > It's going in for repair as we leave. We got it just after the
JK> picnic > at your house 2 years ago so it's out of warranty. Didn't
JK> realise how > much I used it until I couldn't.
JK> I understand that completely. When my original one died after having
JK> it for soooooo many years, I was truly at a loss... When Ron bought
JK> the Professional for me for my birthday, I was in heaven (g).
We bought the Professional KA after trying yours--and Rachel's non
Professional model. Hopefully the repair job will bring many more years
of use; if not, we'll buy the Viking or Bosch.
>> charging through (g). Sometimes they just run around the house in
>> circles and I have to yell at them "OUTSIDE!" and out the door they
>> go, the three of them (haha)
JK> > All 3 trying to go thru the doggy door at once? That must be a
JK> sight!
JK> hahahahaha I have actually seen them try that! They don't make it
JK> though (g) Toby always makes it first (surprising (g)) and he pretty
JK> much fills up the dog door...and then the two puppies both either go
JK> through at the same time or close to it. But in their maddening dash
JK> for the dog door, sometimes all three of them do try to squash through
JK> :)
Good laughs then. Too bad you can't get it on film but those are hard to
anticipate moments.
>> it's thought. He's doing ok though, and mostly having problems with
JK> > It's good you found out, not so good the diagnosis. Our prayers are
JK> with > you as the 2 of you learn how to deal with the various ins and
JK> outs of > it.
JK> Thank you, to both of you. It's another little issue one comes upon
JK> in life, as I see it. I think if I didn't have MS for all these
JK> years, I probably _would_ have freaked out when I heard it, if you
JK> know what I mean.
I do; now you're thinking of it as just another "blip" in the road of
life instead of a major bump. The way we look at life makes a big
difference in how we handle situations like that.
>> garbage with the Exterra worked out so well in getting the new car.
>> He didn't need any more stress than he already had gotten :(
JK> > That's for sure!
JK> Now we're trying to sell the xterra to someone who won't mind
JK> rebuilding the engine.. I was able to see the pathfinder which helps a
JK> lot. How we ended up with two of those SUVs is beyond me (grin)..
JK> actually, we bought the pathfinder when we were in KY, used. So we'd
JK> had that one for over 10 years.. the Xterra I thought would last
JK> longer than it did, but it already had a LOT of mileage on it when my
JK> daughter's father in law sold it to us (he traveled across the country
JK> a lot with it). So it made sense it went first (g).
Our mini van lasted 14 years but the next vehicle (the Focus) we didn't
even have for 3 years. We're hoping we can keep the Escape going at
least 10 years; it's not getting as much mileage put on as we thought it
would. It turned over 15,000 on our way up here & we've had it for 15
months. This is our 3rd extended trip in it, with one mini trip (to
Carol's) in that time. We'll soon be able to leave it at home and walk
to church which will save about 20 miles a week. It all adds up.
>> Yes, exactly.. we started looking right away after the 'mail box'
JK> > Too bad you couldn't have found out about the area before moving in.
JK> It was hard given the distances involved and the way the companies
JK> worked out the deal.. "right now" was more like what we heard (g).
JK> I'm glad we ended up only renting that first house :)
I know the feeling; last year we needed to vacate quarters by mid April.
We had a challenge finding housing in WF in March--at the end of May,
all kinds of places were available that weren't in March.
JK> > When we applied for quarters at some posts, we were allowed to
JK> choose > the area we wanted to live in. That was no guarantee we'd
JK> get housing > there but we did. Other places we had to take what was
JK> available but we > never really had a "bad" place.
JK> That's something at least! It's hard to know sometimes though. We
JK> didn't realize the bar across the street was so ummm.... rowdy.. at
JK> times when we bought this house (g).
But, at least it's calming down. Maybe it'll go out of business. (G)
JK> > Always nice to know people where you live. We're getting to know
JK> more > and more folks in and around the area. Good thing the bar is
JK> settling > down; the threat of losing their license must have made
JK> them realise
JK> > they needed to.
JK> Yes, it's something we can't understand. In any situation like this
JK> (small village with a bar on the main street), the bar owner has
JK> always kept his patrons in line, so to speak.. knowing that families
JK> live nearby. He just didn't care to do that, which is sad, but
JK> hopefully getting better now.
Praying it will get even better. (G)
