=================
Howdy Ruth!
->
-> ->  hn> on Manhattan the whole time. I just don't find
-> -> hn> large cities that enjoyable. Seattle is an
-> -> hn> "almost large" city (grin) and at times THAT'S
-> ->  hn> too big.
->
-> -> I hear you there! Raleigh is our near by "big city" and too big at
-> -> times. We've only gone to small parts of it--where we needed to for
-> -> medical appointments, Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, computer and
-> -> fabric stores--you get the idea.
->
-> hn> I've been to Raleigh many times, have family
-> hn> there as well (Morrisville). I rather like Raleigh
-> hn> when the weather is "right" but I don't care
-> hn> for the entire south during the high humid days
-> hn> of summer! And from what I understand from
-> hn> relatives who live there, even during the
-> hn> biggest drought, the humidity was still
->  hn> unbearably high!
->
-> We made it thru last summer. Central air & not going out in the heat of
-> the day if we can avoid it helps. We were up in NY for this last heat
-> wave--bad here with no a/c. It might have been just as hot or hotter
-> there but would have had the a/c to help.
->
For years we got by with fans only, cooling
the house down each morning by opening windows
at each end of the house and blowing in one end
and out the other. Finally one year we got a window
unit just for the bedroom...and boy o boy do we love
that little AC in the summer! Now that I have a wifi
setup here at home, Anne can even go back there
and do 'puter stuff in comfort!(Grin)

-> -> hn> My sister, loves the heat and I mean LOVES!
-> -> hn> It seldom gets too hot for her tastes! I can not
-> -> hn> imagine me going to Charleston in July...I've done
->
-> -> I know; we visited Charleston several times when Rachel & David lived
-> -> there. Summer was hot and sticky but March was really nice. Last
time
-> -> we were there was May of 02 for their college graduations & David's
-> -> commissioning.
->
-> hn> I remember going there as a child, and
-> hn> the biggest thing I remember is that it
-> hn> was a sweltering humid day that felt like
-> hn> I'd been in a hot shower all day.
->
-> We had that feeling most all of this week. Had we been home, I wouldn't
-> have done much of any cooking. Ice cream and other cold stuff would
-> have been on the menu, along with lots of ice cold fruit and lots of
-> liquids.
->
I've been at the ballpark the last 7 days.
Hot, HOT and humid! I've had to launder
my uniforms every night when I get home
as I am drenched in sweat most of the time
at the ballpark. I was Captain for 4 of the
seven days and I was on the run most
of the time! Glad they are on the road
this week! I need the REST!!

-> -> hn> When Amanda was here, we picked up two small
-> -> hn> (17.2 oz) bottles of "Cascade Ice" sparkling water.
-> ->  hn> 0 calories, sodium free lemon lime flavored...basically
-> -> hn> carbonated water with some flavoring added. Not bad
-> -> hn> but at $1/bottle, I would have been just as happy with
-> -> hn> regular water, and perhaps a twist of lime (grin)
->
-> -> But worth the treat since Amanda was with you. (G)
->
-> hn> Well, they were cold, refreshing and
-> hn> portable on a hot day running around!
->
-> I know; you need to replenish liquids on humid days as well as dry ones.
-> "Never go out without a water bottle" was an unwritten rule when we
-> lived in AZ.
->
Yep! One of the days at the ballpark I had
cautioned my team to make sure they kept
hydrated and to take "shade" breaks as well.
Guess who got to busy to follow his own
advice? Yep...By the 7th inning I had been
running around the ballpark so much that I
began to feel a bit woozy...had to sit down
and drink about 2 liters of water to get back
to what passes for normal! (grin)

-> -> Good; the heat is supposed to break today & be really nice tomorrow.
-> -> We're in western NY until Sunday, then take off for PA and south.
->
-> hn> According to Anne, the heat which has been
-> hn> horrid, and the humidity which has been
-> hn> equally so, have actually been rather nice
-> hn> for her back...other than all the sweat involved!
->
-> Baking it all out, with a sauna to go with it. Best way to go.
->
If it works great...a bit drastic though ! (grin)
I have the next week off so I'll be doing some
resting and hopefully some painting at my studio
which is NICELY air conditioned!
chat with you soon!
