I've only caught ALDI out of one thing that I usually buy there - the
Moser-Roth 70% cocoa Dark Chocolate. And, as that is not really a staple item
for me .....

I cannot imagine them being out of *any* canned staple item. 

Where I work we have 4 stores in town and several within 30 or so miles ... all
linked by computer. If we are out of an item that a customer needs to repair or
enhance his car we will see if it's available at a nearby sister store. And
then call that store for a visual check. If the store has the item and the
customer is willing to drive there to get it we put the part on "hold" so that
it won't be sold to someone else whilst our guy is in transit.  Bv)=

I thought that was common practice in all retail operations. But, last holiday
season I went to Lowe's (the builder's supply not the grocers) for a present
that my sister-in-law had expressed an interest in obtaining. They didn't have
one on their shelf. The clerk checked his confuser and the store across town
and told me that they showed "a positive inventory". So, I asked him to call
for a visual confirmation. He was dismayed and avowed that the computer said it
was there. I told him that "computers lie" and that if I drove 18 miles to the
other side of town and they were out that I'd drive the 18 miles back to his
store and look him up. He called.  Bv)=

When I got to the Lowe's across town I went to the small appliance aisle and
found the item. A clerk came up and asked if I had come from the Northeast
location. When I told him that I had he replied, "Good, you sure put the fear
of retribution in (name of clerk). He knows he's supposed to call. He's just
lazy." And then gave me 10% courtesy discount because I had to chase over to
his store for the item. I sorta like doing business with Lowe's when I can.
Because of thing like that.

Geez, Dave, you're getting long-winded. Sharrop and bung in a recipe .........

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Lowe's Chicken-Grape Salad
 Categories: Poultry, Fruits, Salads, Nuts
      Yield: 8 servings

    1/2 c  Butter
      2 c  Mayonnaise
    1/4 c  Chopped parsley
    1/2 ts Curry powder
    1/4 ts Chopped garlic
      4 c  Diced, cooked chicken
      2 c  Seedless grapes
    1/2 c  Toasted slivered almonds
        pn (ea) Salt, pepper, marjoram

  Heat butter in saucepan and let cold to room temperature.
  In a bowl, gently stir in butter with mayonnaise, parsley,
  curry powder, garlic, marjoram, salt and pepper.

  Combine this with chicken, grapes and almonds. Chill till
  serving time.
