Hi Janis,

>> CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS MESSAGE <<

JK> that one, and so does Ronzoni I believe. It's not all whole wheat,
JK> but a combination of grains IIRC.

Wonder if anyone used the white whole wheat for pasta.

JK> > So many pros and cons on it; it's a decision for the parents to make
JK> but > they have to be very much aware of possible problems associated
JK> with the > practice. I'd have to take a neutral position if a mom to
JK> be asked me > about it until I did more research.

JK> My own feeling is it's more than just a danger to the baby.. try
JK> putting the baby down after it's spent it's early life in your bed,
JK> every night :) I've seen how easy it is for some of these parents to
JK> just totally give in to kids when they are babies, causing problems
JK> later on. Not just my daughter, but pretty much all the toddlers in

And we saw it with Robert when he was younger. Don't know how Sarah is
but seened to be content in the crib in NY.

JK> bought Drew a bed that looks like a train engine, and that helped..

That probably was a big help. Thomas the Tank Engine?

JK> when the kids were babies, thank goodness. They never slept in our
JK> bed on a regular basis; I did nurse the two of them and sometimes
JK> they'd fall asleep while doing that, but then they were gently moved
JK> to their own crib or cradle, etc.

Same here for the most part but no cradle. A portable bassinette for
Deborah tho, until we got Rachel moved to a "big girl bed" & out of the
crib.

>> Must have been the 'times'.. My mother went back to nursing when I was
>> about 13 or so. Before that she'd never used her degree in nursing.

JK> > So we both got most of our cooking mistakes made on the family
JK> before we > got married.

JK> Lol, that's true :) Though I do remember some uh.. good ones when I
 JK> was first married :)

So do we! Guess that's what makes memories tho.

 JK> > It's a joke with Steve & me; I made a few not to be
JK> > repeated dishes but I knew how to cook before I left home. None of
JK> my > siblings could say that. (G)

JK> Lol - know what you mean, since that's exactly how it was here (G)..my
JK> siblings weren't in the same position at all :) By the time Mom went
JK> to work, My oldest sister was in College, #2 sister was married (very
JK> very young - maybe 17 or 18), and then there was me... my brother and
JK> other two little sisters depended on me to cook for them :)

I started with one night a week (when Mom went to school in Oneonta),
then went to 6 weeks straight in the summer. During the school year, my
older brother was at home, as well as the younger siblings. He got a
live in job for the summers tho--thankfully as he was the worst critic
of my cooking. FWIW, I think he "cooks" everything in a microwave now.

>> center. It was a lot more challenging because the kids there rarely
>> got decent food at home, or decent care from doctors. The day-care
>> made quite a difference in their lives.

JK> > I can imagine--good food, medical care, attention from people
JK> interested > in their well being............................

JK> Yes, it was a great place. Ron and I did some puppet shows for the
JK> kids over there, and they really loved the puppets.. We used
JK> muppet-type puppets and had quite a troop that would travel around
 JK> doing them.

Those puppets are funny and you can do a lot with them. (G)

>> where I got my grain mill, that let her make milk from 'various'
>> seeds, etc. Looked pretty neat :)

JK> > We got a soy milk maker back in 2003 that gets used regularly.
 JK> IIRC,

 JK> Yes, that's what it was (G)

Sort of thought so from what you said.

JK> > Steve said other grains and suchlike could be used to make "milk" in
 JK> it > as well.

JK> Yes, she uses it for rice milk and many others.

Ours is used mostly for soy.

JK> > Or don't want to make the time. It's there if you want to do
 JK> something > badly enough.

JK> I guess.. I know my daughter hardly has time to breathe these days..
 JK> she's working 3 jobs - 1 full-time that takes her to the city once a

That's a lot of working time!

JK> month for a week, one on every Sunday night at the health food store,
JK> and her own company that designs web sites, etc. I used to have that
JK> kind of energy LOL.. it's been while though (G). I have a feeling that
JK> there are more young couples in that kind of position these days, as
JK> they try survive with a few kids..

Seems that way. I was a stay at home mom for the most part. We did
without a lot of things (music lessons, etc) but the girls had enough to
keep them busy otherwise. They were in Girl Scouts for several years
while we were in Germany, before the new leadership took over and made
it a program I can't endorse any more.
