Sounds like fun.  If my dad wasn't working week ends, he was working on
finishing the house (moved in in 1957, last room finished about 1970),
yard & garden work, or out with the Boy Scouts. If the village fire
siren went off, he'd drop whatever he was doing and grab a camera to
cover the story for the newspaper.  Old habits die hard; he's been gone
from the paper since late 81 but there was a big fire in town a couple
of weeks ago.  He grabbed a camera (digital now, vs film for when he was
on the paper), got to where he could get pictures of it and shot some.

Most of our "picnics" were if we were going to visit dad's relatives or
take/fetch my mom from summer school.  Dad's family was all out around
North Tonawanda & mom went to summer school in Geneseo.  All too far to
get to without stopping for a meal so my mom would pack sandwiches and a
jug of kool ade.  Depending on when we'd get away, we'd try to stop at
the parking area near the Elmira airport for lunch. It was always fun to
watch the planes come in, seemed like we could just reach up & touch
them.

I think the licensing system has ben around for quite a few years. My
dad was friends with the NY State DEC man who developed the hunter
safety course that is now the standard for all states.  He developed it
I think in the late 50s.  The stories he told Dad about hunters he
encountered, especially during deer season, could curl your hair!

No, not smart at all. He could have gotten himself into a heap of
trouble for discharging a fire arm within town limits, among other
charges.

No, looking at all the fat on the pieces in the store and the list of
curing chemicals.

Do you have room in your apartment for a small freezer?  Sounds like one
would be a good investment if you do.

Sounds good.  We've cut way back on the amount of meat we are buying. I
thought I wasn't going to get any on the last commissary run but they
had turkey pieces on sale. I got turkey Italian sausage, turkey wings
and turkey breast cutlets. The last ones will be made into schnitzel.
