Hi Carol,

 > CS> I have quite a few here now. BJ's had a 6 box unit of spirals (some
 > CS> have used up 1.5 boxes in the last 2 months. I also have a largish

 > Let's see--I've got shells, spirals, flat noodles, linguini (angel
 > hair), spaghetti, orzo, penne, lasagne and maybe some elbows on my

CS> Probably 2 years worth for us <g>.

We had orzo (vs rice) Monday night and spaghetti last night. Tonight and
Friday we're eating out, tomorrow I've got a crock pot meal planned so
probably that's it on the pasta for this week.

 > CS> yam noodles and udon.

 > I don't have the yam noodles or udon. (G) My pasta is whole wheat for
 > the most part, with a few whole wheat and combo products.

CS> The udon will be gone within a day or so. The yam noodles got
CS> finished off last night. Don had used 1/2 the pack then hidden the
CS> rest on me. That means 'get more' around here!

And you tell him to put it on the shopping list. Generally, if it's a
while before my big trip, I'll start a list on the scribble board on the
fridge. That helps me remember I ran out of or need to get something,
especially if it's a less than regularly bought item.

 > Do you like pasta salad? I do but Steve doesn't so occaisionally I'll
 > cook up a few extra spirals or shells to make a small salad for me.

CS> Yes, but not all the time. Rice is more of a mainstay for us.

I don't do it very often but it's especially nice when I've got a bowl
made up and I don't feel like cooking.

CS> True, but Charlotte likes a variety of cereals so this would be ok
 CS> with us.

We don't have any kids home with us so don't have to buy kid's cereal.

 > turnips

 > CS> Mom never made them that I can recall so they were a 'new to me thing'

 > I had to eat them at my grandmother's for Thanksgiving dinner. Those and

CS> I got turned off on yams too as a kid. Canned ones, just dumped in
CS> and heated. Not the worst thing in the worlld, but hardly anything to
 CS> inspire wanting them again.

No, the worst thing in the world pertaining to sweet potatoes/yams is to
do them candied super sweet with marshmallows on the top. My
grandmother always mashed them smooth so we called it "baby food"
because of the texture and taste. I don't know about my brothers but
neither of my sisters nor I can look a sweet potato dish in the eye
civilly.

 > CS> not cooking them right) and only now am going back to. I dont know

 CS> >

CS> That matches, also a bit bitter another said (Jim Weller I think it
 CS> was).

 > (Later--just checked James Beard, an old reliable source for lots of

CS> Sounds like one I wouldnt appreciate all that much. I think I'll
CS> investigate turnips more fully instead. I know, 'stop playing with
 CS> the food Carol'....

Play all you want but clean your plate. (G)

 > CS> the spinal specialist appointment. Not sure how long it will be.

 > Hopefully you were successful today. It seems like a lot of running in
 > circles has been done vs your getting the treatment you need.

CS> Got one now and the wait isnt as bad as I had feared. Tuesday, 15th
CS> at 0830. Great time to have to hit the mid-town tunnel (groan) but
 CS> I'll work it out.

The advantages of a smaller place like Savannah! (G) Still, it's in
town on the north side of post and we live on the south side. It's
about 15-20 minutes drive/wait (at traffic lights, etc) time on a good
day, decent hour.

 > CS> that it was ignored this long. Prognosis due to delay isnt all that

 > That is way too long. The best thing I can say is that it should raise
 > your disablity rating when you retire. But seriously, something should
 > have been done much earlier.

CS> Agreed. Well, it's happened so now looking forward is best. Yes, if
CS> they can't fix it I'm golden for disability.

As is Steve for several problems--nothing like a bad back but hearing
loss will be his major issue.
