===========================
-=> Quoting DAVE DRUM to SEAN DENNIS <=-

DD> Food Chanel has had similar shows in past - so, the concept both
DD> pre-dates and will survive the current swaggering ass who hosts
 DD> currently.

From what I understand, he may be on the way out once his contract runs
out, but one can only hope!

DD> Charlies Parker's is one of those fairly common 6 am to 2 pm blue
DD> collar cafes which abound in non-24 hour cities. Back when
DD> Spring-A-Leak had factories and such we had a number of 24 hour venues
DD> - some of which were quite nice and a few which survived on the 1 AM
DD> and 3 AM "drunk rush" (city and county closing times).

There's a few places around here, but they're hard to find. You
generally have to go south into the heart of Gawga to get to any of
those places. There is a fast food chain called Martin's that opens at
5 AM and closes at 3 PM. I haven't been there m'self yet, but I've
noticed that's where all the old guys like to hang out, have their
coffee and shoot the breeze. Probably all the old farmers from around
here-when I worked at the McD's in Carbondale, we'd get mobs of older
retired and semi-retired folk who'd come in and congregate in our big
indoor Playland to have their morning joe or a bite to eat.

Since I was always there at that time of morning working, I got to know
them pretty well. Seems they'd been doing that for decades at different
places and when this store opened up (in '87, I believe), they started
going there nearly daily. It was always something to look forward to
for me. I am very much a creature of habit (I've had so much change in
my life that I'm now to the point to where I just want to have a normal
rouitine!) and something like that comforts me.

DD> But, my "city fathers", with malice aforethought discouraged
DD> smokestack industry to the point that what we had moved out (one clear
DD> to Italy) or closed up and we are left with the paper shuffling of one
DD> fairly major insurance company and the paper and foot shuffling of
DD> state gummint (and the hi-jinks of the Gov and Legislature) ... which
DD> does not pay all that well but is relatively recession proof.

We don't have too much industry here as Douglasville is quickly becoming
a bedroom town for the metro area. The urban sprawl is knocking at our
front door and is threatening to spill over all the way to the
Alabama/Georgia line along I-20. Needless to say, Maura and I would
love to live farther out but can't now.

And here's one from Mr. Loo's archives:

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Cheeseburger Pie
 Categories: Main dish, Cheese/eggs, Meats
      Yield: 6 Servings

           -----------crust------------
1/4 c Milk or light cream
      1 c Bisquick baking mix
           --------meat
Filling-------- 1 lb Lean ground beef
1/2 ts Salt 2 ts Bisquick baking mix ----------topping----------- 2
Eggs; lg 1/2 c Onion; chopped, 1 md 1/4 ts Pepper 1 ts
Worcestershire sauce 2 Tomatoes; sliced, md 1 c Cheddar
      cheese; Shredded,4oz

Heat the oven to 375 degrees F. Mix the 1 cup of the biscuit baking
mix and the milk until a soft dough forms. Gently smooth the dough
into a ball on a floured cloth-covered surface after kneading the
ball 5 times to mix. Roll out the dough until it is 2 inches larger
than an inverted 9-inch pie pan. Ease into the pan and flute the
edges. Set aside. Cook and stir the meat and onion in a large skillet
until the meat is brown. Drain off the excess fat. Stir in the salt,
pepper, 2 Tb of the baking mix, and the worcestershire sauce. Turn
the meat filling into the pastry lined pie pan. Arrange the tomato
slices on the meat mixture. Beat the eggs slightly and stir in the
cheese. Spoon onto the tomatoes spreading the mixture to cover the
top completely. Bake for about 30 minutes. Cut into wedges and serve
with chili sauce, if desired. Source unknown, but doesn't look too
  gross.
