================
Hi Sean,

RH> unco-operative for a few weeks. Therapy would probably help but try
RH> soaking it in warm water, then wrapping it with a warm towel several
 RH> times a day.

SD> I've really not been doing too much with it, but it's been popping
SD> every so often and I am able to pick up a nearly full gallon of milk

Don't even try the gallon of milk for a while yet; you don't want to
blow the doctor's work out. Even a quart can be too heavy, especially
if grabbed the wrong way. Use your right hand!

SD> with it for a few seconds at a time. I'll do the warm water/towel
SD> treatment you suggested. From previous injuries that involve
SD> swelling, I know that works and I don't know why I didn't think of

Probably because it's been a while since your last major injury. If you
can find a home wax (paraffin) therapy unit, it might be worth the
investment. Just slip a plastic bag on over the wax before you wrap the
wrist in the towel. (G)

SD> The oddest thing is that my fingers hurt (the bones). It's really
SD> hard to explain, but there's an ache-an intense, distracting ache-that
SD> will last for a few minutes. I can stop it by holding my hand on my
SD> chest, pressing my thumb under my index finger and pausing for a few
SD> minutes (the same position as if you were in a sling).

Not surprising; it's been a while since you used that hand in a normal
way. The carpal tunnel part of the surgery may have a bit to do with it
too.

RH> Been there, done that, surprised the therapists with my high tolerance
 RH> for pain inducing exercises.

SD> I'm having mostly just aches, but every once in a while, I'll move it
SD> a little too far and I'll quickly and painfully realize that I
SD> shouldn't have done that. I have a spot, about the size of a silver

Just take it slow and easy. I made the mistake of cross stitiching for
about 3 hours a few months after my wrist break--had to pass Steve the
check book in the commissary that night as I couldn't even hold the pen
to write a check.

SD> dollar (if the dollar was placed squarely over the carpul tunnel
SD> ligament), that is 100% numb. But I'll slowly get the feeling back.
SD> Just a weird feeling to have.

I know, it took years for it to come back even part way in my knee. It
still has dead spots, 36 years later. Steve has one on his chin from his
jaw surgery 8 years ago that affects his ability to whistle.

RH> I've not been on it (guess I should give it a look see) so can't offer
RH> any suggestions. Big one tho--don't overdo the typing or other work
RH> with the wrist as it is still healing. It's easy enough to do without
RH> realising you're over doing until a few hours later.

SD> If you do, leave me a note. Due to problems with abuse, the board is
SD> at 100% manual validation, meaning that until I mumble the magic
SD> words, you've got no access to the main board. However, since you are
SD> one of the "QWK people" I have, I do have a special "fast QWK" menu
SD> that will let you go directly to it from logon, get your mail and
SD> leave without going into the main menu. You do have a choice to
SD> continue on if you so desire though. If you want that, let me know
SD> and I'll set it up. Oh, your account will be "permanent" and not
SD> subject to the upcoming 60-day deletion rule...so you can always use
SD> my board as a backup.

Once I get the time to play around with my EEEPC, I may try it with that
set up. Right now I'm up to my ears in pink fabric, with a few other
pastels thrown in; I'll be sewing a nursery set for the granddaughter
coming this fall. Steve better get used to meals from our freezer that
I put in last fall. I didn't need them during radiation treatment but
they will be nice for easy do meals when I"m sewing.

SD> I know telneting into a board is not as easy as point-and-clicking,
SD> but I'll be around. In fact, soon, I'll be changing my Fidonet feed
SD> to feed directly from Janis, so I'll have a guarenteed good feed
SD> (until Janis's system decides to burp <G>).

I'll try to do it some time when Steve is around on this end; he's my
favorite tech support. (G)

SD> Suprisingly, I have gotten this BBS to run fairly smooth-during the
SD> time immediately after the accident, I've had to do precious little to
 SD> it except validate users.

Nice; better than it crashing every other day. (G)

RH> Probably the best for you, as well as eating light, healthy meals.

SD> I'm eating less (smaller meals) and trying hard to keep to a schedule,
SD> but my work schedule is rather strange and my body has a hard time
 SD> keeping up with it.

The crazy work schedule will mess up your body fast. I've had to put up
with Steve on one but tried to keep things on a normal keel for me and
the girls. Couldn't mess up their meal times, bed times, etc with
school times. And, it was easier for me to eat when cooking for them
(and setting some aside for Steve if needs be) so I could do the major
clean up afterward.

RH> Be careful, one ton soup can be heavy to pick up. (G)

 SD> Yes, but it's rather filling! ;)

Rather--too much for me at times.

SD> Now here's something I'll pass on, but my wife seems to want to make
 SD> this:

 SD> MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

SD> Title: Cafe Kati's Mango Spring Rolls
SD> Categories: Thai, Appetizers, Fruits, Noodles, Ceideburg
 SD> Yield: 8 Servings

She's welcome to make them. I'd eat them if someone else made them but
it's too much chopping, etc for me to do it. My wrist is complaining
from my chopping onions, celery and potatoes this morning for a potato
salad.

Catch you later,
Ruth
