Ärende: Cast-off
================
Hi Sean,

RH> blow the doctor's work out. Even a quart can be too heavy, especially
RH> if grabbed the wrong way. Use your right hand!

SD> I'll be using my left if I have to get a gallon of milk out...the
SD> right one is the damaged one and of course, I'm dependent on the right

Sorry,I was thinking it was your left wrist was broken. It's a bummer
to have either one out of commission but the one you use most makes it
harder, even when the cast is off.

SD> hand. But, for now, I can do what I need to with it. I can write
SD> with some pain (thankfully, that's mainly these days just signing my
SD> signature) and I can type for short bursts. Lately, though, my hand's

Good progress, but watch how long those short bursts are.

SD> taken to ache constantly. I can put up with it without any medication
SD> (I'm not supposed to take anything but Tylenol, but to me, Tylenol is
SD> just a placebo), but it's just more annoying than anything else.

SD> God forbid if I accidentally hit it on something or my wife even tries
SD> to touch it to give me some affection. My whole hand is sore to the
 SD> touch...something I have to work with.

I know the feeling too well. Is there a reason why they're only allowing
Tylenol? You need what I call the "big guns" to have a bit of relief.
Keep eating left handed for a while; you should be pretty good at that
by now. (G)

RH> Not surprising; it's been a while since you used that hand in a normal
RH> way. The carpal tunnel part of the surgery may have a bit to do with

SD> I was also told it is because of the plate and screws; my body's still
 SD> getting used to it.

I know, the body doesn't like anything like that. I've got them in
several places and I know how you can hurt all over. The left wrist and
elbow are telling me to lay off the keyboard; I will--in a few minutes.
Good thing supper will be mostly recycled chicken and potato salad with
another vegerable to go with them. Maybe I'll jsut rinse some baby
carrots.

RH> The crazy work schedule will mess up your body fast. I've had to put
RH> up with Steve on one but tried to keep things on a normal keel for me
RH> and the girls. Couldn't mess up their meal times, bed times, etc with
RH> school times. And, it was easier for me to eat when cooking for them
RH> (and setting some aside for Steve if needs be) so I could do the major
 RH> clean up afterward.

SD> I read that people that do shift work tend to be at higher risk for
SD> all sorts of problems; diabetics that do shift work triple that risk.
SD> Right now, it's getting enough water into me. There is a Gold's Gym
SD> near me offering $15 a month no-contract memberships; I'm going to go
SD> look into that. It is not safe in my neighborhood to even go
SD> walking...mainly because of the neighborhood and the extremely busy
SD> street I live off of.

Look into it--and ask for a personal trainer if you can. We got a
treadmill in HI because the sidewalks weren't safe (too many heaves and
buckles from tree roots); I need to get back into using it more
regularly.

SD> Judging from what I learned when I first joined the Army and was
SD> immediately put into the Fitness Training Battery (I was
SD> artillery...we called it "Fat Tubby Bastards" :), some stair-climbing,
SD> treadmilling and bicycling will be good. I really want to work on my
SD> upper body too, but a lot of that is going to have to wait until I can
SD> safely put more pressure on my right wrist.

So work on the legs for now; the wrist will come in time. Just remember
that it will never be what it was before you broke it so push ups and
stuff like that may have to be modified.

RH> but it's too much chopping, etc for me to do it. My wrist is
RH> complaining from my chopping onions, celery and potatoes this morning
 RH> for a potato salad.

SD> She made me some of her turkey stroganoff today...I normally detest
SD> sour cream, but she doctors it up pretty good in the stroganoff to
SD> where I taste just a hint of it. Filled up on that, so now I sit here
SD> at work at 12:38 AM, a little full, tired and pondering what I'll do
SD> for the rest of the night to keep myself awake.

Are you confined to the desk or can you walk around a bit? If you can
walk, a short "get up and stretch" break every so often will help. Walk
around the desk, reach for the sky, bend like a palm tree in a wind
storm, etc. (G)

 SD> Title: Cerveny Kapusta
SD> Categories: Loo, Vegetables, Polish, Pork, Smoked
 SD> Yield: 3 -4 as a si

I'm still on a low pork diet since Steve isn't fond of it. I read
recipes like this and just sigh. (G)
