You need at least one restaurant you can rely on, so you can take
friends there and know they won't be disappointed.  Mexican food is
good in that it has something for everyone's tastes.

I have been to the Crown for breakfast a couple of times when my
daughter was working there.  Quite a good spread.

Ah, now I think I know the place, at the back of some shops in Mitchell
Street. Just by the bus terminal.  There are some friendly small
eateries around there, and several back-packer hostels in Mitchell
Street. Some of the street trees have resident possums, which delight
the tourists.

On New Year's Eve and some other occasions Mitchell Street is closed,
and for several blocks is turned into an entertainment area, with
bands, dancing, food, drink, and sometimes acrobats performing on
apparatus suspended by mobile cranes.  On those occasions I have seen
the possums looking down from the trees, wondering what all the noise
is about.

      Title: Thai Green Pawpaw (Papaya) Salad
 Categories: Asian, Salads, Side dish, Appetizers
      Yield: 1 Servings
 
      1 cl Garlic
      2 T  Peanuts, cooked and crushed
      2 t  Raw sugar
      2    Chillies, bird's eye
    1/2    Tomato, large
      1 c  Shredded green pawpaw
      3 T  Fish sauce
      2 T  Lime juice
 
  In a large mortar, crush together, garlic, peanuts and sugar. Add
  whole chillies to taste, and crush some more. Add remaining
  ingredients and crush until the ingredients are bruised, rather than
  squashed, and thoroughly mixed. Serve at warm room temperature as an
  accompaniment to a main dish, or as an appetiser.
