Sometimes, for me, things like that just need a break, then a fresh look..

Heh.. that will be neat :)

The biggest trick with the singer futura 350 embroidery machine was using a
thread 'enclosure' on the spool of thread when embroidering (it looks like
white webbing).. The machine didn't like keeping the thread 'straight' or in
the right path so to speak otherwise. I actually took it off my brother sewing
machine and used it on the Singer since I'd had a similar problem with the
brother .. It made quite a difference :)

I wish Singer had stuck with the slant shank,etc.. It just seemed to work so
well.

They work well with this machine at least.. I can understand why you wouldn't
need them hehe :)

That's nice ;) We might do that for Mother's day... not sure if I want to ..
weather is just getting nice though :)

No, I don't think so.. but to be honest, I can't remember what we had.. Was a
while ago (G)

Typically, when Mom wanted to include Italian pastries, etc. she'd have my
second cousin Richey bring them from Jersey.. they were outrageously good :)
I've never had better ones :)

>> If I'm making broth for chinese cooking here's what I use:

>> 5 lbs chicken backs (preferably both) or 5 lbs chicken necks
>> (preferably both)
>> 1 large onion, peeled & roughly chopped
>> 3 scallions, halved
>> 3 carrots, roughly chopped
>> 3 stalks celery, roughly chopped
>> 1/2 head garlic (about 5-8 cloves)
>> 8 slices gingerroot
>> 1/3 cup mixed herbs (cilantro, basil, parsley, etc)
>> 5 black peppercorns
>> 1 tablespoon sea salt
>> 1/2 cup rice wine
>> 20 cups water (1.25 gallons)

> You're much more organised than I am about how much of what goes in.

hehe.. on paper (or screen, so to speak (g)) Yes.. in reality, I probably do
things the same way you do.. :)

> I'll have to try adding some ginger. However I make it, it is good.
> Sometimes if I've got some stock in the fridge, I'll add it as well.

Yes, same here.. certainly if I have leftover chicken legs, etc, they get
thrown in :)

Linzer Shapes

1/2 cup butter, at room temperature 3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup ground toasted almonds
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup strawberry or raspberry jam

Preheat oven to 350F

Cream butter and sugar in large bowl. Combine flour, ground almonds and baking
powder and add to the creamed butter mixture.

Divide the dough into two. Cover these with plastic wrap or tin foil, and
refrigerate for one hour.

Flatten the first roll of dough to 1/4 inch.

Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Kids love animal shapes and can help cut
the dough.

Bake 8 minutes, and then cool on a wire rack. Spread 1 teaspoon of jam on the
cookie, then top with another baked cookie. Dust the cookies with powdered
sugar.

Take care,
Janis
