Hi Janis,

JK> > Yes, I was reading over the basic manual aa few days ago and
JK> > understanding more of the technical details than I did when we
 JK> bought > it.

JK> Sometimes, for me, things like that just need a break, then a fresh
 JK> look..

In this case it's more a reflection of what I've picked up technically
over the last 8 years.

JK> > Still a lot more to learn tho. Steve said he would learn how to use
JK> > it and then teach me; I'm still waiting on his instruction. Maybe
JK> I'll > get it mastered and teach him some of the ins and outs. (G)

JK> Heh.. that will be neat :)

Yes, but I'll need time to learn. Got enough on the table before that
can happen that I'll be busy for some months to come.

JK> The biggest trick with the singer futura 350 embroidery machine was
JK> using a thread 'enclosure' on the spool of thread when embroidering
JK> (it looks like white webbing).. The machine didn't like keeping the
JK> thread 'straight' or in the right path so to speak otherwise. I
JK> actually took it off my brother sewing machine and used it on the
JK> Singer since I'd had a similar problem with the brother .. It made
 JK> quite a difference :)

Thread nets can make all the difference with some of those threads. I
also use them to keep cones of thread tidy when I stow them.

>> Yep.. and a lot of the attachments will fit either machine. I often
>> use my singer attachments on my brother cs-90 (think that's the name

JK> > I bought a bunch of low shank feet to use with my Pfaff that I can
JK> use > with the Brother, and probably the Singer as well.

JK> I wish Singer had stuck with the slant shank,etc.. It just seemed to
 JK> work so well.

I got my first Singer in 1975; I think they had gone to low shank before
then.

>> thread to save some money on that aspect. I buy them pre-wound in
>> packs of 20 or something (g)

JK> > I've not tried the pre wound. We use the bobbin thread in the
JK> machine's > bobbin as well. One spool holds a lot (!) of thread; Steve
JK> thought it > would need replacing a few projects ago but it still has
 JK> thread on it.

JK> They work well with this machine at least.. I can understand why you
 JK> wouldn't need them hehe :)

Bells & whistles to some people but a great time & money saver to
others.

>> ron just told me it's the 3rd LOL.. 1971. We have never really

JK> > We go out to dinner usually. One of our wedding presents was an

JK> That's nice ;) We might do that for Mother's day... not sure if I
JK> want to .. weather is just getting nice though :)

I'll be here for Mother's day, returning to NC Thursday of that week. I
think we'll go out on Friday to celebrate that and a number of other
things. (G)

>> Ron's family was very small, so my family well outnumbered them.. His

JK> > Did you have pizzellas too? Steve's mom brought a whole lot of them.

JK> No, I don't think so.. but to be honest, I can't remember what we
 JK> had.. Was a while ago (G)

Look at pictures of the reception. (G) But, I know what you mean ib
trying to remember details like that. I remember that one as it was the
first exposure to pizzellas for my family, even tho I'd had them before.

JK> Typically, when Mom wanted to include Italian pastries, etc. she'd
JK> have my second cousin Richey bring them from Jersey.. they were
JK> outrageously good :) I've never had better ones :)

Good way to do it. I think Steve's mom did it for all her children's
weddings and the one grandson that got married. I'm pretty sure she
didn't do them for Rachel's as she had to fly in from NY to AZ for that.
I could be wrong; I'll have to ask Rachel.

broth

JK> > You're much more organised than I am about how much of what goes in.

JK> hehe.. on paper (or screen, so to speak (g)) Yes.. in reality, I
JK> probably do things the same way you do.. :)

"A little bit of this, a little bit of that..............." I'll saute
some of the veggies first for extra flavor.

JK> > I'll have to try adding some ginger. However I make it, it is good.
JK> > Sometimes if I've got some stock in the fridge, I'll add it as well.
JK> > Seems to add just a bit more depth of flavor.

JK> Yes, same here.. certainly if I have leftover chicken legs, etc, they
 JK> get thrown in :)

Fat and skin add flavor too. If we have a rotisserie or roast chicken, I
save the carcasse to make a quickie soup. I'll also save any scraps of
skin and some of the fat that are left when we're done picking at it.

 JK> Linzer Shapes

JK> 1 cup strawberry or raspberry jam

Never seen them with strawberry jam as an option; I thought raspberry
was the traditional filling.
