Hi Ruth,

>> Sometimes, for me, things like that just need a break, then a fresh
>> look..

> over the last 8 years.

No doubt.. I remember there was a time when I'd be working on some program or
code, and darn, if I had a dream about it, I knew I was immersed totally in
"the language". This was at a time though when we were trying to learn as many
computer programming languages as we could (grin). That's when the big "Aha"
moment would come :)

> Yes, but I'll need time to learn. Got enough on the table before that
> can happen that I'll be busy for some months to come.

Same here.. Still haven't had time to finish at least one project for Ron.. The
trouble here is we need to finish moving some rooms around.. like move the
dining room into the room where the 2nd Kitchen is, that kind of thing.. Once
we get the rooms settled, I can get organized.. drives me nuts trying to find
things "all over the house" so to speak :)

Plan is: Move the dining room into that 2nd kitchen ( a little cramped, but
not so bad, I sold the antique Dining room set I had in there), move the
Computer room into what was the Living Room at the picnic (we have too many
systems!!! <laugh>), Make the existing Dining Room in the front of the house
into the living room, and then (and this is the whole reason :)) put a bathroom
in what is now the computer room. poor Ron.. I do keep him busy :)

I don't have that many of them.. only two I believe. As far as thread, oh I
have tons of embroidery thread spools I bought on sale on day.. One of those,
every-color-you-could-ever-use sales.. it was great :) I ended up having to buy
a spool holder frame from allthreads.com just to keep them all organized.

No, I don't think so.. I bought my Athena in about 1978.. the slant shanks were
going strong.. I made all of my kids school clothes with that machine.. jeans,
shirts, dresses, the works :) Before that, I was using a sewing machine I'd
bought when I was in HS, since I'd always worked and saved my $$.. It was a
Singer Stylist machine with cams - pretty low end, but it did the job.. as a
matter of fact, I traded that one in when I bought the Athena :)

>> They work well with this machine at least.. I can understand why you
>> wouldn't need them hehe :)

> Bells & whistles to some people but a great time & money saver to
> others.

Sure, that's true. The pre-wound bobbins supposedly don't work on all machines
either, though I haven't run into any problems with any of my machines.. right
now I have the CE-350 Embroidery machine for fancy stuff, the brother cs-90,
and my "work horse" machine, a singer CG-500 Commercial Grade.. and a few
Athena's I've bought second hand to play with repairing them and using them for
an embroidery attachment device I have for it (G)

>> That's nice ;) We might do that for Mother's day... not sure if I
>> want to .. weather is just getting nice though :)

> I'll be here for Mother's day, returning to NC Thursday of that week. I
> think we'll go out on Friday to celebrate that and a number of other
> things. (G)

Sounds good.. :) Did I see that you've had another grandchild born? Neat :)
God Bless all of you :)

We went to Ithaca today and I was able to find a spaghetti attachment for my
Atlas macaroni machine - I've been looking for that for ages :) The kitchen
gadget store there had it.. so now I can make fettutcine, capellini, and
spaghetti with that hand machine.. really nice :) Also picked up two really
pretty dresses on a lark (smile)

>> No, I don't think so.. but to be honest, I can't remember what we
>> had.. Was a while ago (G)

> Look at pictures of the reception. (G) But, I know what you mean ib

Oh, who knows where they are now Lol.. seriously, we've moved too many times to
even think about where they are :( Ron and I were just talking about 'the
wedding' photos.. well, there weren't that many, really. Now I remember all the
details of my daughter's wedding :)

[broth]
>> probably do things the same way you do.. :)
> "A little bit of this, a little bit of that..............." I'll saute
> some of the veggies first for extra flavor.

Yep.. it really adds flavor. I think I already mentioned one of the ones I do
in the microwave.. browing the veggies is key in that one...

> Fat and skin add flavor too. If we have a rotisserie or roast chicken, I
> save the carcasse to make a quickie soup. I'll also save any scraps of
> skin and some of the fat that are left when we're done picking at it.

Lately all the chicken bones from roast chicken go into that tomoto-chicken
bone stock I mentioned to you, from when I saw that diners, dives and drive-ins
gravy. It's Ron's favorite :)

>> Linzer Shapes

>> 1 cup strawberry or raspberry jam

> Never seen them with strawberry jam as an option; I thought raspberry
> was the traditional filling.

For a linzertorte, yes, that's all I've seen as well. I remember making it and
everyone loving the linzertorte with rasberry jam... but for cookies, it's more
relaxed in that respect :) This recipe came from a really good friend of mine
from New Jersey, years ago. She used to love to come over, and we'd have
essentially a cooking fest (g)

Take care,
Janis
