So the local heritage society lost your contribution to the
maintenance of the ship.  I have climbed all over an aircraft carrier
in Corpus Christi, and a cruiser and submarine in Boston, but no one
asked me to go through a metal detector.  If they had, I would
probably have responded similarly to you, as I like to carry a
beautifully made little pocket knife I bought in Toledo.

You are quoting the figures given for a .22 short bullet fired from a
gun with a long, over half metre, barrel.  I would expect that bullet
to have a velocity several times that of the bullet fired from your
micro-gun.  Did you ever try firing it into a pine plank to test its
penetrability?

That would make it rather obvious, but of course if you were a truly
dedicated shoe-bomber you would not mind amputating a few toes.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Kai Look Koei (Son-In-Law Eggs)
 Categories: Thai, Scatologica
      Yield: 6 servings
 
      6 lg Eggs
           2 Tb oil, plus more for
           Deep-frying
      1 sm Onion, finely sliced
           4 Tb fish sauce
           2 Tb sugar
    1/2 ts Crushed dried chile or chile
           Powder
 
  Hard-boil/cook the eggs for 6-8 min. Rinse in cold water and shell.
  Heat the oil in the deep-fryer or work until a light haze appears.
  Using a slotted spoon, lower the eggs into the oil and fry gently,
  turning carefully, until they are a light golden brown. Remove from
  the oil, drain, halve lengthways, and arrange on a serving dish. Set
  aside.
  
  In a small frying pan, heat 2 T oil until a light haze appears. Fry
  the sliced onion until crisp and deep brown. Remove from the pan with
  a slotted spoon, drain, and set aside. There should be a film of oil
  left in the pan. Turn the heat down low and add the fish sauce,
  sugar, and chile. Cook slowly, stirring, until the sugar has
  dissolved. Continue to cook 1 min until the mixture thickens, then
  add the reserved onions and stir for a few seconds to mix. Remove
  immediately from the heat, pour over the eggs and serve.
