Only reason I know that my phone has such is that I was just looking
through all the options for everything once, and discovered that I could
choose between "All" and "911 only" under a heading "location".  I
promptly chose the latter.  I'm guessing that that is sent by some basic
form of GPS on the phone.  It certainly doesn't have the capabilities to
let me know where I am, or how to get anywhere...  For that I use a map,
anyway.  :)

I know some people here that have done that on their phones.  The
closest I've done to that is to have the first number in my phone list
my home phone, by just listing it without a name, but with the "home"
symbol... I realize that may be a bit too subtle for some to figure out,
but at least it's on the top of the list for MY benefit all the same. :)

As he is by far the most experienced traveler, I'd go by his judgement
there... :)  I lost a treasured umbrella (that I had purchased in
Scotland) on a subsequent trip, when they decided at check-in that it
had to be checked, but it never arrived at the other end... Apparently
just vanished into thin air, and they didn't even seem to have a record
of it anywhere...  :(
