=========================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Not wanting to admit they're old. Mom is older than any of her
RH> immediate family has lived to; Dad will reach that point in a
RH> couple of weeks or so. Unknown territory is intimidating.

NB> It always is... except, perhaps for the intrepid explorer... :)

Who's most likely a young whippersnapper anyway.

RH> No, and if it's done before something major happens, then we won't
RH> have to worry quite so much if something major happens. There's
RH> enough in the house to make us worry about them staying there but
RH> we can't force them out.

NB> No, not until they really can't stay there...

That inevitability gets closer every day.

NB> NB>> They still may not be willing to do it all at once, maybe they
NB> think NB>> it's too much money all at once, too...

RH> Money isn't an issue. The house would have to be torn up for a while
RH> (to do all that should be done ASAP) and I don't think they want to
RH> deal with that. They have tweaked their morning routine so Mom only
RH> makes one trip down the stairs a day--a small step but better than
 RH> none.

NB> Money might be a mental issue for them just the same... but the torn
NB> up house would indeed be an issue... Everything at once has its
NB> benefits, but it also is a very hard thing to deal with, very
 NB> overwhelming. Of
NB> course, a never-ending construction project as one does one thing
NB> after another gets to be just as overwhelming... If they had
 NB> somewhere to
NB> stay while the massive project was happening, it might make things
NB> easier on them... but all the change at once might also be
 NB> overwhelming.

Six of one, half a dozen of another kind of issue. With having a dog &
cat, they can't just take off and go somewhere for a couple, 3 months at
a time. With their physical problems, it's almost impossible to get them
anywhere either--flying is just about out of the question, as is
driving (unless someone drove them). The house my brother owns isn't in
any shape for long term guests but it is convenient--across the street.
OTOH, my other brother's house in Florida is a single story one, he's
the only one living in it and would have the room for them. But there's
the issues of getting them there and pet care. Can't win, no matter
what, it seems.

NB> before the Thursday before NB>> at the earliest, anyway, since things
NB> are scheduled up to that...

RH> OK, we're debating 3 or 4 nights at my parents. Three would put us
RH> into western NY on Thursday. Have to talk with Steve a bit more and
RH> make our decision over the next couple of weeks. Getting together would
RH> be fun, maybe that Spanish place?

NB> El Latino would be a good choice. :) Among other things, it's
NB> convenient to the expressway system, and on the west side of town...
NB> and very close to our house... :) Keep me posted. I'll understand
NB> if the schedule doesn't allow, but it would indeed be fun. :)

We're spending 3 days in the Catskills so would get to western NY on
Thursday. Probably dinner with Mom & Dad, maybe more of the family that
night. Friday night get together? Lunch Friday? We've got some time to
play around with dates so think about what will work best for you.

Catch you later,
Ruth
