=======================
Hi Michael,

RH> Does the house have a dishwasher/does he know how to use it? Won't
RH> work for all dishes but it's a start. Even if he could just fill

ML> The dishwasher has not worked since the house came into the
ML> family decades ago. It is of course of a nonstandard size.

It was a thought. From hunting for this place on into wherever we live
afterward, a working dishwasher is a "must have" for me. Had the old one
replaced a couple of months ago but the landlord got the least expensive
one he could find. Steve rescued the sound baffle blanket from the old
one & put it on this one; it's noisy enough that I'd hate to think of
what it would be like without the blanket.

ML> I told Jonathan once that I would not authorize a disbursement
ML> from the estate to have a replacement made, but he was free to
ML> use money from his share of the estate (6 figures, as he gets

Probably not very high on his list of priorities tho.

ML> more than I do, because of the clause written in at my suggestion
ML> to protect him when he was a minor child) to do so. Anyhow, he

And never changed once he reached adulthood. My parents revised their
wills 10 years ago, first time they'd done so since I was a child. I
think they're talking about doing it again as now they have great
grandchildren to incorporate into the "who gets what" division of
property.

ML> would likely not use it except perhaps as a storage spot for who
 ML> knows what dirty articles.

Do you think he might learn to put dirty dishes in it?

RH> something with soapy water and put the dirty stuff in there, it's
 RH> better than nothing.

ML> He has been taught to do this, but nothing is going to correct
ML> his habit of leaving stuff around - not just in the sink - I
ML> often find dishes with crusted and/or rotting food at his place
ML> at the table, at my place at the table, on top of the microwave,
 ML> and so on.

Sigh! Combination of being single and his mental issues I guess. We may
not have much room at our table but it's from piles of paper, not
crusted or rotted food.

ML> I think it's more like him going to the doctor and having
ML> some weird concern and the doctor saying okay and writing
ML> whatever prescription the kid wants.
RH> Still sounds like the doctors need to check things better, and the
RH> pharmacies. Cross reactions can be fatal; if one pharmacy doesn't know
RH> he's been perscribed drug Z that can cross react with his mew scrip

ML> Aside from the mental health stuff, which changes periodically,
ML> everything he's taking is from the standard regimen. One thing
ML> about the kid is that though most of his behaviors are in some
ML> way self-destructive, he is more terrified of death than anyone
 ML> else I know.

IOW, then he's good about not crossing meds? It can be done
inadvertantly if an OTC or 2 are thrown into the mix; hopefully he's
aware of that.

RH> Every major metro area concentrates most on local news.

ML> The network nightlies are supposed to correct for that bias, but

Yeah, right!

ML> judging from what I saw (in the online editions - I don't watch
ML> TV much) they did not do so in this case until many days into the
 ML> crisis.

Biting my tongue, and not for the fresh meat.

ML> hot and black pepper; I presume you'd refrain from at least
ML> one of these. If one were Spanish, one might add a bay leaf.
RH> Got to get some shrimp, have butter, olive oil and garlic.

ML> I recommend it, of course.

I want some good coastal wild caught seafood. Pan in butter with a bit
of garlic & I'm happy.

ML> Here's something that looks pretty good and pretty easy. If your
ML> dietary thing prevents you from using sherry vinegar, balsamic
ML> might be a good substitute, in which case depending on the
ML> vinegar, you might want to cut the sugar to half or less. I find
ML> the amount of garlic and mint a little high, as well.

We keep balsamic on hand--as well as red & white wine, rice wine, cider
and white. If it's alcohol turned to vinegar, no problem as it's no
longer alcohol but vinegar.

 ML> Tomato mint soup
 ML> cat: soup, vegan, easy
 ML> Serves: 4 to 6

 ML> 10 tomatoes
 ML> 15 garlic cloves
 ML> 5 shallots
 ML> 5 sprigs fresh thyme
 ML> 1 oz olive oil
 ML> 1/2 c aged sherry vinegar
ML> 1/4 lb fresh mint leaves
 ML> 2 c tomato juice
 ML> 1 oz brown sugar
ML> Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Looks good--and garlicy!
