==============
Hi Ruth,

RH> Darden has that effect. Their food is about the same, from what I can
 RH> remember of it. :-)

We prefer Carraba's but went to an OG a few months ago, first time in
some years. The starters were still the same; salad or soup with
breadsicks. I always go for the salad; Steve has had the soup often when
it's pasta fagole. He got the salad this time; I've made pasta fagole
that tastes so much better. Forget what our entrees were-they're always
changing things on the menu but it's usually varients of a theme. Usualy
there are a lot of pasta dishes, a number of them with seafood or
chicken additions. Their marinara sauce isn't as good as my home made.
(G)

-> I think the kid's menus that were heavy on carbs and fats took advantage
-> of kid's tastes and the fact that those things (mac & cheese, hot dogs,
-> fries) didn't cost restaurant owners much money. Happy meals & such like

RH> Cheap, easy, and make kids happy? That would be a no-brainer.

Kid eats too many of them and he's a no brainer as well.

-> didn't cost too much to make either, and loaded with stuff kids like. A
-> lot of kids won't eat something if they're told "it's good for you" but
-> they will go for things that appeal to them (carbs and fats).

 RH> So we don't tell 'em.(G)

Easier said than done. On oour trip down from Fort Devens to Fort
Huachuca, one night we stopped at a place like Po'Folks or Cracker
Barrel where you order your meat & a couple of sides. Deborah was in 7th
grade at the time; she ordered mac & cheese for both of her sides; we
tried to talk her out of it but................anyway, she was
disappointed that the mac & cheese was nowhere near like what I make.
For a while, Robert liked the mac & cheese at Red Robin--don't know if
he still does but now Sarah likes it too. They usually order melon
slices as their 2nd side.

-> RH> owned by cats is that you always blame the cat, even if the cat

-> I don't think my parents would say they're owned by this cat. She looked
-> sweet & innocent in the adoption center but has turned out to be a
-> monster. Mom & Dad have had her for several years and are debating
-> getting her declawed so she can't go after wildlife.

RH> We did that to one cat and always regretted it. Poor kitty had a
 RH> breakdown.
RH> If the cat hunts, declawing her won't stop it; she'll just find
RH> another way to nail the critter. Besides, squirrels and mice deserve

This cat has brought home dead rabbits. Since she is such an outdoor
cat, they probably won't do it but she has done a lot of damage to not
only the trains but other parts of the house. Not sure what will happen
when my parents pass away as I'm 99% sure my brother won't want her
(maybe, but probably not the dog either). I can't have either, don't
really think I'd want either one except as a last resort home.

-> RH> standard for a circa 1915-1920 basement. Pretty darned dark

-> OK so take a good flashlight and hope that the jars, cans, etc are
-> labeled in bold enough lettering to stand out. IOW, no spidery
-> handwriting on dirty paper.

RH> I would, but the house was sold in 1979...and me without a time
RH> machine. Grandma didn't store canned goods down there, although you
 RH> can bet the
RH> family that built it did.

Don't know where my mom learned to can, possibly her mom during WWII but
the house I remember was built in the early 50s/possibly late 40s. No
real set up for keeping canned goods; had a modern basement and no
pantry.

-> RH> The counter tops are still original.(LOL) Pink and grey on white.

-> And nothing has been put over them to cover the pink & grey? Of course
-> retro is coming back so she's stylish again.

RH> Nope. They're getting worn though. It only took 50 years. They're
RH> light enough not to be obnoxious, and I rather like them. The
RH> cabinets are solid wood, so if we redid the kitchen I'd vote for
 RH> refinishing rather than
 RH> replacement.

That sounds good. Probably full shelves in the lower cabinets instead of
these with half width shelves on the top. Those take away so much
valuable storage space!

-> up. It was pouring tho, yesterday afternoon, when I had to go out for an
-> eye appointment. We're above the average rainfall, instead of the
-> deficit we'd been running.

RH> That's a good thing. We're well above average here for the summer,
RH> thanks to a hurricane and tropical storm. Now if only I could ship
 RH> about six
RH> inches of it down to Texas.

Over several days tho, not all at once.

->  RH> Tabachnik made lunch - they're a Kosher frozen soup manufacturer.
-> RH> It's about the only prefab soup I'll eat.

-> Never heard of them, probably a local brand. We buy a fair amount of
-> Amy's Organics, sometimes a Wolfgang Puck organic or most any Whole
-> Foods 365. Usually canned; I make a lot of chicken & vegetable type but
-> pop them into the freezer instead of canning them.

 RH> It's a kosher-only brand. You probably need a bigger Jewish
RH> population for it to turn up. Of course around here the Gentiles buy
RH> half of it. They do have a few organic varieties that cost exactly
RH> the same as the regular

Might find it in Raleigh or Savannah. Will I go out of my way to look?
Nope, got other priorities. (G)
