Ärende: Jason's Deli

Gail and I visited a restaurant new to us and new to Columbia area
tonight.  Its name is Jason's Deli.  Web page, leading to menus and
locations, is www.jasonsdeli.com.  They started in Texas 35 years ago,
and have a large number of restaurants across the states.  We only
recently saw an advertisement for them in our local paper, and they have
been written up in howchow.  I think that they opened here a couple of
weeks ago.

The menu has a wide selection of sandwiches, pasta, and wraps.

I had a Reuben, described as hot corned beef, swiss, sauerkraut, russian
dressing, grilled on rye.  The meat was piled high -- more than an inch
most places.  The amount of cheese, sauerkraut and dressing was not as
large -- but I did not mind.  There is a food porn picture on the front
of the menu showing the Reuben, and I have to say that it was quite
accurate as to the amount of meat.

I also had a bowl of seafood gumbo.  This was by far the best gumbo I
have had outside of Louisiana.  The roux was a deep chocolate brown.
The seafood consisted of small shrimp and/or crawfish -- not really
sure, but they tasted good.  The seasoning was moderate heat for me.
Others would perhaps have wanted to add some of the Cholula hot sauce
they had on the side bar next to the fountain drinks.  For me, it was
just right.

Gail had a quarter Muffaletta special, which included a cup of the soup
of the day.  Today's soup was a spicy tortilla soup.  The flavoring was
sort of like a thin chili.  Gail enjoyed it, and I had a spoon or two.
I'd happily have that in the future if they didn't have the gumbo.  Her
Muffaletta had ham, hard salami and olive relish -- served on a crusty
Muffaletta bread that was as good or better than any we have had
anywhere, including Central Grocery in New Orleans.  The only
improvement might be to put a bit more of the olive salad onto it.

The menu had a lot of other sandwiches that look to be worth trying.
They also had a few vegetarian items, and a very nice looking salad bar.
The salad bar was an extra item (7.59, add some chicken or other things
for another 1.79).

According to some of the comments on the web page and on the menu, they
are pretty health conscious.  None of their items have HFCS, and their
grilled chicken is free of antibiotics from the egg to the kitchen.
They have a gluten free menu as well.
