A couple of passengers commented that they barely felt the touchdown,
and thought it was a proper landing - until told to evacuate the plane
quickly under a shower of fire-fighting foam.

I heard on TV a Qantas cabin crew-woman complaining bitterly that she
had to clean up the cabin after a passenger had died, losing control
of his bowels in the process.

I have just watched a program on "Spitfire Women", who ferried the
fighters from factory to front line during WW2.  They all praised the
Spitfire, one of them saying it was a real "ladies' aircraft", as it
was so nimble, with light, precise controls.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: War Cake From M.F.K. Fisher
 Categories: Cake, Salvage
      Yield: 1 servings
 
      2 c  Flour (white or whole
           Wheat)
    1/4 t  Soda
      2 t  Baking powder
    1/2 c  Shortening - bacon grease
           Cn be used, because of the
           Spices which hide its taste
      1 t  Cinnamon
      1 t  Other spices (cloves, mace,
           Ginger, etc.)
      1 c  Chopped raisins or other
           Dried fruits
      1 c  Sugar, brown (or white)
      1 c  Water
 
  Sift flour, soda, and baking powder. Boil all other ingredients
  together 5 min. Cool thoroughly. Add flour and mix well. Pour into a
  greased loaf pan and bake at 325 for 45 min or until done.
