It's much the same in America.

Apparently there are some who do. I don't mind the GEICO gecko - it's marketing
with a velvet hammer rather than beating you over the head with strident scare
phrases, etc. in a loud and "panicked" voice. And with a sometimes wicked sense
of humour.

I don't watch the glass teat ... nothing to see here, folks. Just get on with

DD> "A gammon joint is basically a ham joint which has been cured like
DD> bacon. It is different from a bacon joint in that it is a different

DD> Gammon can be smoked or un-smoked." http://www.thepigsite.com

GJ> I disagreed with several of those equivalents; others I just didn't
GJ> know. Young MLoo has also noted errors.

Do you know if Kevink made that list on his own hook, or if he cribbed it from
some outside source? If it sprang from his somewhat (ahem) skewed thought
processes that would explain a lot.

 DD> According to "thefreedictionary.com" gammon n. 1. A cured or smoked
DD> ham. 2. The lower part of a side of bacon. [Middle English gambon, from
DD> Old North French, from gambe, leg, from Late Latin gamba, hoof; see
 DD> gambol.]

Not to me. I'm allergic to what I think you are referencing.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.02

      Title: Gammon Steaks w/Whisky Sauce
 Categories: Pork, Vegetables, Booze
      Yield: 4 servings

4 Ham steaks; 275g/10 oz ea
      2 tb Fine chopped onion
      1 tb Brown sugar
      1 tb Jameson Whiskey
     30 g Flour
     30 g Butter
    175 ml Water or stock
           Salt & pepper

Brush steaks with melted butter. Snip fat to prevent
curling, and grill for 7-8 minutes each side.

To make sauce, gently fry onions in remainder of butter
until cooked. Remove from heat and stir in flour
gradually. Add stock. Return to heat. Add sugar and bring
to the boil. Simmer gently for about 2 minutes to cook
flour. If sauce seems a little thick, add more water. Add
  whiskey and season to taste.

Place gammon steaks on a warmed serving platter and pour
  on sauce.

Serve with peas and carrots, or sauteed potatoes.
